We were lucky to catch up with Diara Nicole recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Diara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always had a passion for Modeling, I started at 14 and I am now 20 year olds. Back then I didn’t think I’d accomplish half the things I have but now there’s very little I can’t say I’ve done. Even though I am still perfecting my craft i due believe I’m established in this industry. About a year ago I took a chance on myself and quit my 9-5 to pursue this career path full time. 1 month later I ended up in LA for the BET AWARDS. That’s when I knew I could really make a living from modeling full time and I haven’t looked back since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m 20 years old and have been modeling for 6 years now. I’m not signed to an agency nor do I have a manager. I’m completely freelance. I’ve been published in various magazines such as Vogue, and Harper Bazaar. I am also on the modeling team at Morgan State University ( Fashion at Morgan) I got introduced into the fashion industry by working with local businesses and brands which lead to meeting new people and making connections. I am a full time student and also a mother so maintain a consistent schedule is a must! I have to be very disciplined and organized to keep up with everything on my plate. Along with modeling I offer help within the public relations sector of business and creative direction and recently I’ve added mentorship to my roster. If I asked younger me what was my 5 year plan I would have said something totally different then the life I’m living currently. If I didn’t take that chance on my self I wouldn’t be here and I probably wouldn’t be enjoying a 9-5. So to everyone reading, take that chance on yourself and also book Diara Nicole for your next project.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Making my own schedule is definitely the most rewarding, but also being my own boss. I don’t have to answer to anyone and if I wake up and decide that I don’t want to work today I don’t have to.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve always had social media presence, but the hard part is maintaining and keeping the presence. Staying up with the latest trends, frequently sharing post, and making interactive content is tricky but once you get the hang on it and you put yourself on a schedule to create everything will work out in the end. I do recommend taking advantage of Instagram Reels and using Hashtags on your post, these things bring non-followers to your page.
