Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DiAnté Jenkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, DiAnté thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
It’s very different with the filmmaker going from idea to execution, because the idea is typically before writing phase. So you have the initial idea then you have the execution with writing and from there you have to execute with the actual filming and putting it together it’s never an easy thing. Finding collaborators and making sure that your vision is being fulfilled is always challenging but the key is communicating clearly your intentions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a filmmaker based in Washington DC. I got started in filmmaking very young. I made my first short film when I was 12 I wrote my first screenplay when I was 6. Professionally I got into the industry when I was around 16. I interned for a company and started building contacts within the industry. by 18 had made my first feature film. now I’m four feature films in and I’ve made countless short films. However, the thing that took my personal brand up to another level is joining TikTok and making film analysis videos which go viral weekly. Now that’s a huge part of my branding and business.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
what a lesson I had to unlearn is that I can’t do everything by myself. A lot of times I try even to this day, but to achieve the quality of work that I want I need a team around me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I build a rather sizable audience on TikTok by finding the niche that fit in with what I was doing, and consistently putting out videos to cater to that niche. My advice for anybody that wants to build their audiences to find your niche and focus solely on that there are people out there who are interested in whatever you’re doing. You have to cater to them.
