We recently connected with Dianne Shelton and have shared our conversation below.
Dianne , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Roughly 11 years ago, I took the biggest and most transformational risk in my entire life: I co-founded, co-owned, and co-created an amazing Spiritual and Personal Development center in the heart of Austin, Texas called The One Center Austin. We started from scratch looking for a commercial property; sought out funding from the SBA and local financial institutions; wrote a solid business plan; oversaw a complex remodel of the property; and opened our doors in 2014. We provided trainings for groups; weekly events; and worked one-on-one with individual clients. The whole process of creation lasted two years and it was truly the most exciting and intense time of my life, all while I was working full time in a highly demanding role while doing my best to take care of my family. I learned to harness and channel my unstoppable enthusiasm and excitement to overcome unsurmountable obstacles faced when dealing with huge bureaucracies (federal and city). I learned that polite persistence creates win-win outcomes. I learned that going after a dream requires faith, patience, and an understanding that things are always working out for me. I fell in love with my innate abilities and my passion for living an amazing life. The One Center Austin served a local, nationwide, and international community. We closed our doors in 2021 as it was time to explore new horizons and new dreams. While I miss the community driven service, I am so excited about what is next for my professional journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I offer life changing services to individuals and groups wanting greater awareness and love for a life more fully lived. I am a gifted Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (trauma/PTSD healer) and energetic transformation coach . I offer an authentic and powerful journey that goes beyond anything you have experienced in traditional counseling or life coaching. The heart of my work is through illuminating, identifying, and awakening YOUR unique gifts so that YOU live an embodied and passionate life. I serve clients throughout the United States and internationally as my practice is now fully online.
My clients appreciate my down to earth, compassionate approach to trauma healing along with my enthusiastic and transparent approach to personal development and growth. Currently, I am offering integration services for clients who have been exploring plant medicine journeys. I have 11+ years experience helping clients safely integrate medicine ceremonies (ayahuasca, psilocybin, ketamine, MDMA, and cannabis). Connecting with plant medicine to heal trauma and PTSD is very powerful. However, the real work is in the integration of the insights and experiences received in ceremony. Integration has both subtle and not so subtle elements. Working with an experienced professional who is trauma trained allows you to safely and comfortably navigate the integration period. In 2024, I will be offering online content on the following topics: understanding how to prevent trauma in the workplace; safely preparing and integrating medicine ceremonies; and navigating the complexities of generational trauma.
I am most proud that my clients move on and have even more amazing lives after our work together. I love the referrals as I get to hear from new clients the impact I have had on previous clients. I have an opportunity to serve humanity and make a difference by healing trauma. I truly believe that when one person heals their trauma, it has an impact on the creating a better world for all of us.
Prior to my private practice, I spent 10 years as a co-founder/owner of spiritual wellness company and more than 16 years in a leadership role within a Fortune Global 500 company where I traveled the world, training, developing, and leading the best and the brightest. I hold a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Ethics. In my spare time, I love to travel with my son, showing him this beautiful world. I enjoy hiking and powerlifting. While Austin is my current home, my heart belongs in the Rocky Mountains (New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana) along with the Colorado Plateau (Zion, Moab, Bryce).

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My outstanding reputation comes from a solid understanding of ethics (just because you can do something does not mean you should do something) and following the golden rule: do onto others as you would have done unto to you. I am impeccable with my word and adhere to a deep integrity. While I have a healthy ego, I know that the best work I have done comes from following my heart and treating others with respect and compassion.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I show up and do my best. When I was a high school freshman, I auditioned for the role of Helen Keller in the play, The Miracle Worker. Right before my audition, I watched a senior pour her heart and soul into the audition. I knew that she would get the role and there was no way I could compete with her performance. When it was my turn, I gave a very defeated and lackluster reading of the part. In other words, I gave up. Later, my drama teacher asked me why my audition was so poor. I explained that I watched the senior give an outstanding audition. My drama teacher said that is all the more reason to come on stage and give the audition everything I could. She told me to always show up and be my best. From that time on, no matter what anyone else is doing or how nervous I am, I show up and do my best. It was a transformational moment in my young life.
