We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dianna Liner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dianna, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I started in the business about 20 years ago. I feel in love with the entertainment industry growing up as a child. I sang in the choir in Hight school and college and was in theatre as well. In my 20s I decided I wanted to be in the entertainment industry but on the business side, so I started doing interns for record labels like Columbia Records, Tommy Boys etc working with artists such as John Mayer, Averlast and more. Then. I went on to work in Radio working at top radio stations 104 KRBE and MIX 96.5 in Houston Texas..
After working in radio I met a guy who worked for RCA one day when he came into one the radio stations with a CD of an unknown group called NSYNC.. We played their first single ” I WANT YOU BACK” I befriend mark and informed him I was interested in doing what he did. so with permission of my boss from the stations I went on some show dates with Nsync working as Mark assistant,
I when I came back from on tour with NSync, I know that boy bands were the thing, so I decided to form a Houston Boy Band. This is of course PRIOR to American Idol. I have a friend who owned an after hours club, that opened at 10pm, so He let me use the club early in the day to Hold Auditions, so I placed an ad in the local paper and about 120 guy from all around the city came out..
I recruited 3 friend to help Judge the contest. from there we found 5 male singers I Called E’ccentric. They performed Malls, Festivals, was on VH1 with Destinys Child and more.. after about 2 years I disbanded the group and took the lead singer solo He went a good time performing but decided to get out of the business. I went on to sign other artists.. today I manage artists, actors and music Producers.
Dianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love the fact that the industry is always changing. I am most proud that I stuck to my dreams.. This business can be very challenging, but I continue to grow and learn new things as they arise.. Liner Entertainment Group works with hard working, talent artists that have a vision and sticks to it.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being 100% honest and transparent.. There are a lot of wolves in this industry and its important to be an person people can trust.. People do LIE and there are people who slander because they were not signed or if you decide not to work with them, they make up stories and try and discredit but those are the same people who never make it and the industry call TOXIC.. Black-list is a real thing in the entertainment industry so trust is very important
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Well would with Hold personal Auditions, or we stroll social media like Youtube or Instagram to find talent.. sometimes we get referrals from Industry associates like labels or producers when we are seeking new talent to represent.
