We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diane Younes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diane below.
Diane, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My path to starting Growth 2 Mindset has not been linear. Every step encountered prior – working as a lawyer in Investment Banking, founding and running a lifestyle tech startup, and realizing how important movement, nutrition and mindset are – has led me to this.
And what I hope people retain from my story, is that every chapter in your life sets up the foundation for the next one. Which ultimately culminates into deeper knowledge, wisdom, experience, growth and gratitude.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I worked for 6 years in New York as a lawyer in Investment Banking, then founded and ran a lifestyle tech startup in Asia for 6 years. Through my experience of living in Asia during COVID times, I discovered how important movement was. I started a sport called CrossFit, and as I got deeper into it, I realized how important nutrition, mindset and recovery were for my training. These elements ultimately helped me mentally as I was living in uncertain times, away from my family members, lockdown after lockdown.
I became certified as a trainer by the American College of Sports Medicine, and as a Nutrition Coach by Precision Nutrition, to help others with their own wellness. I then created Growth 2 Mindset upon my move back to the US to encompass all of my past experiences into one: I help wellness and sports companies grow by helping them with business development, marketing, partnerships and legal. I also help people grow by offering fitness and nutrition workshops and corporate wellness events. I have a podcast called The Di-scussions Podcast where I invite industry leaders to share their stories of personal growth. I also developed a non-profit aspect to Growth 2 Mindset, where the team and I volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse, offering people with down syndrome an opportunity to play sports, as I truly believe movement is for everyone.
Growth for companies. Growth for people. Growth².
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Experience and authenticity.
I know what it’s like to be in the trenches, building and running a company. Trying to make it. Trying to expand. Trying to have staying power. I have also failed at some of those aspects throughout the years. Only to try again.
The best athletes out there in sports have failed countless times. And that is why they win. The same goes for business. Being a successful consultant is being there for your clients: understanding what it is like to be in the trenches, and knowing what it takes and doesn’t take to get them to flourish.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the fact that you have to pick a career in your teens and stick with it. I don’t know about you, but I’ve lived countless lives already. I have personally grown and gone through different chapters in my life, and it is ultimately what made me who I am today.
I always wanted to be a lawyer. I was so happy going to law school that I went twice: I have one law degree from Canada, and another one from New York Law School. I also loved running my own startup. Creating different – additional – paths for yourself isn’t necessarily because you didn’t like the previous one. It’s because you are capable of multiple paths in your lifetime. If you want an accelerated path to growth, try doing multiple hard things in a lifetime!
