We were lucky to catch up with Diane Makish recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Diane, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents always supported me in all aspects of my life, but most importantly, gave me the freedom to explore my goals. I never felt compelled to be anything other than myself . My late father was an amazing man
An , artist and intellect. I learned so much from him in so many different aspects.
He was one of the first jewelers for Cartier and designed jewelry for the late queen Elizabeth and her sister when they were teens. Everyday I think of him and thank him for being such an integigal part of my success. So many ah ha moments. Especially now.

Diane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been practicing, now for 23 years. I’ve strived over the years to be the best for my clients. Hyper realism is a technique that creates a highly specialised, advanced technique to create super realistic, natural-looking cosmetic tattoos.
My clientele come to me specifically for real natural results mostly referred from the dermatologists and plastic surgeons I’ve had the great fortune to work with.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy in building clientele, is being honest with each and every one. Every case and canvas is different, so the work and technique used, depends on the skin and facial features. Trends come and go so again, I focus on realistic results for my clients.
I tell client’s that Saturday night eyebrows in a bright light situation, for example, a boat ride, golfing or playing tennis is so obvious and unnatural, especially as a blonde or very fair skin person.
Sure, it looks great in a filtered photo, but again, in person are you seeing a real natural result.
I don’t filter my images.
I want to always show the true skin I’m working on. if you notice, most permanent make up examples on social media are filtered, immediately post procedure and the skin has been smoothed over.
That’s why I tell potential clients to look at results in person, not the picture.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Client’s are looking for your expertise and need your honest advice. Not everyone is a candidate for a treatment, especially when corrective work is needed. It is best to turn away a client that may have unrealistic expectations or one that wants a result that you don’t, as an artist feel is best for them.
Feeling comfortable with the technique you have specifically chosen or decided on, with your client is key. money should not be the only motivation, the art and end results should be the focus.
The energy between client and provider is so important in yielding a great result. I give of my heart and soul to each one. This creates longevity in our client / provider relationship. Over the past 23 years, Most of my clients are repetitive and some have become good friends, I’m so blessed to have met.
