We were lucky to catch up with Diane De Mesa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diane , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I’m glad that my parents taught me the value of education when I was growing up. Even when I was young, I already knew my passion for music. But my parents pushed me to finish an academic degree because they instilled it to my values that one must finish a diploma to have a brighter future. They did not discourage me from doing music altogether, but they promoted that finishing college is the best way and it is what will give me a stable job. Right now, I am working as a professional registered nurse while doing music on the side. It gives me a work and life balance to be able to do both, my career and music that I love. During covid, I proved most especially that being a nurse and as an essential worker is valuable when all the other careers like musicians took a backseat. That’s the time that I appreciated my profession more being a registered nurse, and of course I thank my parents for bringing me up this way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It is most rewarding feeling when I know that I can touch people’s lives through my songs. It means a lot when I see people use my songs on TikTok, or whoever covers my original songs and dedicate it to someone, or just listens to my songs on any digital platforms. It’s a great feeling to know that someone can relate to my songs.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I would advice any artists or musicians starting out to keep posting their videos out there, whether it be Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube or any platforms. Continue to upload your music, music videos and keep going. You cannot avoid sometimes that you cannot please everybody, and may receive negative feedbacks but you must not get discouraged. You need to keep doing it anyway. For me, I always encourage my listeners and my fans or followers to share my links, in that way the word will spread and hopefully more people will see my work. I also updated and posted in my feed and in my stories regularly. That’s how I built my fanbase on my social media platforms.
