We were lucky to catch up with Diana Vergara recently and have shared our conversation below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a creative video director, writer and artist. I create multimedia content for brands, publications, and myself. I’m passionate about visually stunning, engaging stories that capture audiences. I pride myself on having a wide range of genres in my repertoire. From short-form documentary, to beauty, cannabis culture and entertainment. I enjoy covering taboo topics and creating content that makes viewers think. My style is bold, colorful and raw.
At the moment I’m working on private video and photo projects. My purpose is to help others project their vision through photos and videos. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of creating fantastic content and digital media that represents themselves and their ideas.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
As a society, we can support artists by cancelling the myth that being an artist won’t make you money or lead to success.-
Earlier this year I lived in Mexico City, one of the most creative cities in the world. CDMX breathes, speaks, and lives for art. In my time there, I encountered many artists thriving with their art. These artists had one thing in common: They created their own rules and realities regardless of social expectations. By being their authentic selves and believing in their work, they contributed to the city’s culture and style while simultaneously enjoying a fulfilling life. Believing in your calling is a beautiful thing. We don’t second-guess lawyers’ career choices. Why would we second-guess an artist? The power of work and passion can transcend distance, social status, and sometimes even our wildest dreams. But first, we must get rid of the myths that keep us from trying.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
More than resources, I wish my environment was more encouraging to pursue a creative path. If I could go back, I wouldn’t have second-guessed myself. I wouldn’t have worried about money or “getting a real job” as much as I did. I would have used that energy to perfect my craft and embrace my truth.
