We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Diana Firth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Diana below.
Alright, Diana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I had hit my rock bottom. After losing someone to suicide, a relationship I thought was forever, and a job that was going nowhere, I took a chance on myself and started my business Simpllify with Di. Fourteen years of Organizing, staging and designing people’s homes game me a birds eye view into how people were living. I gained access to the deeper parts of their lives and began to see a correlation between the stuff on the outside, and the stuff on the inside. I intuitively knew what they needed to make the bigger shift in thier lives and used my degree in Family Studies and Human Development, along with my prior experience as a counselor, to help guide my clients to living more abundantly. I loved seeing an instant shift in my clients. Moving and decluttering physical clutter was just the beginning. I soon started mentoring my clients 1/1 and helped them move through some of the deeper issues.
I now speak on the topic to Corporations worldwide. I hope to inspire more people to live more simplified and mindful lives.
I knew there was a need for a business like mine after a short stint in real estate many years before. We all have too much stuff, but there’s always a reason behind it. People that needed to sell their homes were drowning in clutter. This is how I knew this idea would work.
What got me most excited about this initially was the idea that I could help people on a larger scale. As an entrepreneur, I was in control of my financial destiny. I could pursue a more purposeful life utilizing my natural intuitive gifts and help my community on a deeper more personal level.
Diana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been highly intuitive and sensitive to my surroundings. This became my biggest gift once I understood how to use it to help others. I received a degree in Family Studies and Human Development which lead to six years as a professional counselor.
I stepped away from counseling and tried my hand at a few other things including real estate. I wasn’t living my most fulfilled professional life, and knew I needed a change. I felt lost and aimless, until one day, my life fell apart. I lost a friend to suicide, lost my job, my relationship, and my home. I had hit rock bottom. I knew something had to change.
It was then that I decided to take control of my life and pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an entrepreneur.
Organizing, Staging and Design were all three things I knew how to do naturally, and my brief experience in real estate confirmed that there was a big need for this.
The gamble paid off and led to fourteen years of successful business ownership.
Moving and decluttering physical clutter was just the beginning. I soon started mentoring my clients 1/1 and helped them move through some of the deeper issues hiding behind the stuff.
The physical clutter is simply a manifestation of other clutter in our lives. Emotional, spiritual and mental.
I’m most proud of following my heart and utilizing my natural talents to lead me to where I am. I trusted and believed in myself and never could have imagined being where I am today.
My 1/1 clients are now changing the trajectory of their lives and living with mindful intention. Some of them leave lifelong careers to pursue what they’ve always wanted to do. Others reach resolution of scarcity thinking that’s plagued them their entire lives.
I now speak on the topic to organizations, schools and Corporations worldwide. I hope to inspire more people to live more simplified and mindful lives.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I started my business I was $150,000 in debt, had no source of income, and no one to turn to but myself. I believe the universe works with us even when we think we’re alone. I had lost everything. My relationship, my job and my home, all in a few weeks time.
It was then, that I decided to take a bet on myself and start my business out of nothing. I saw a need and knew I had the talent to deliver. I knew nothing about business ownership.
Learning to run a business while rebuilding my life was the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. It took losing it all to gain so much more.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
2020 affected all of us deeply in a multitude of ways. Working in peoples homes was no longer an option, and forced me to step out and think of other ways to help guide people into a more abundant lifestyle. This is when I launched my public speaking career. I started speaking to organizations and companies over zoom and grew my mentoring business with 1/1 clients. At the start of 2020 I thought my business had come to an end, but by the end of that year, I had started something entirely new and was able to reach more people with a message of hope and inspiration.
