We recently connected with Diana Caro and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Diana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As a website designer, my mission, both in my professional life and as a person, has always been about making life easier and more enjoyable for others. Growing up, I was deeply influenced by my immigrant parents, who instilled in me the values of generosity and nurturing.
During my graphic design studies, I stumbled upon my first opportunity to work with a local barbershop, and they needed a website. Now, I had zero experience in web design, but I eagerly jumped into the project. To my surprise, I fell in love with the whole process! There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking on a task that’s stressing someone out and confidently telling them, ‘I’ve got this.’
I may not have been a pro, but I knew I could figure it out. Plus, being bilingual was a bonus; it made communication with the business owner a breeze. I could see the weight lifting off his shoulders. And you know what? That business owner now has not one, but three thriving locations, along with a barber school.
Ever since that moment, I knew that designing websites was what I wanted to continue doing. I’ve kept on learning and honing my skills, always eager to stay up-to-date with the latest in website design practices. It’s more than just a career; it’s my way of making a positive impact.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Diana Caro, a web and brand designer based in Denver, Colorado. My passion for creativity and artistry ignited at a young age, and it has been a guiding force in my life. During my high school years, you could always find me in the art studios, where I eagerly enrolled in every art class available. I would often linger after school hours to immerse myself into new art projects.
What captivated me most about creating art was the art of storytelling—transforming personal experiences or someone else’s words into captivating visuals. In college, I embarked on a journey into design and illustration, leaning more towards illustration with dreams of illustrating books. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I landed a freelance website design job.
Through this experience, I discovered that website design is, in many ways, like illustrating a book. It’s about storytelling in a digital realm. I have the privilege of engaging with business owners during onboarding calls, where I unravel their unique business narratives and translate them into compelling brand and website designs.
Today, I offer a wide range of services, including Custom Website Design, Landing Page Design, Social Media Templates, Email Newsletter Design, Website Template Design, Brand Identity, Data Visualization, and various Marketing Collateral. My goal is to be more than just a service provider to my clients; I aspire to be their design partner. I’m the person who tirelessly strives to bring their vision to life and is always in their corner, cheering them on.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
When it comes to being creative, dealing with uncertainty is just part of the game. I mean, think about it – there’s no set roadmap, and sometimes, you’re staring at a blank screen, and you’re like, ‘What do I do now?’
But here’s the thing – creatives thrive on that uncertainty. It’s like this exciting journey of exploration and experimentation. You’ve got all these different ideas swirling around, and you’re not quite sure which one’s the winner. So, you dive in, ready to take some risks and try out-of-the-box stuff.
And yeah, it can get a bit tricky because there are no clear-cut answers. You’ve got to trust your gut and instincts, even when you don’t have concrete proof that you’re on the right track. It’s a bit like walking a tightrope without a safety net, but that’s where the magic happens, you know?
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One cool thing about web design is that you’re always facing challenges. Like, you want the site to look amazing and work seamlessly, right? But sometimes, it’s like putting together a puzzle without all the pieces. So, you get to be this creative problem solver, finding clever solutions that make the website look amazing.
And then there’s the tech side of it. Learning new platforms and figuring out how to design around their limitations can be a real adventure. It’s like navigating a digital maze, and when you crack it, it’s a satisfying ‘aha’ moment.
But the icing on the cake – meeting business owners and hearing their stories. Diving into their world and understanding what drives them. That connection and getting to be a part of their journey? That’s what makes web design extra rewarding.
