We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Diana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
It’s really quite simple. I hope my legacy to be that I loved God with all my heart, and devoted my life, talent and work to Him.
My favorite quote reads…’When I stand before God, at the end of my life, I would hope I would not have a single bit of talent left, & I could say, I used everything you gave me.’
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Diana, and I am the owner of Amor Clothing Co!
I am born of immigrant parents & first generation college graduate. There is definitely a sense of ‘needing to prove yourself’ being first generation! Our parents worked hard to give us a better life, and we know not all get to live the American dream, which we do not take for granted.
I was once a corporate kid, working your traditional M-F 9-5 job. I graduated with a degree in art and this resulted in designing during my spare time!
Now I am currently here, as a firm Lover of Jesus and a full time designer and shop owner! Radically declaring love for ALL.
What sets us apart is we design all of our items, and see them through production. We do have manufacturers that assist with product completion as well! We absolutely love using our talent for the Glory of God.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the biggest ways we have built reputation is our customer service. We try our best to communicate with customers within 24 hours, as they reach out and we stay within our processing timeframes. We know that service goes a long way, and as consumers ourselves we really appreciate hearing back, to ensure all questions are answered! You build trust with customers, especially being an online business, that there is someone on the other end willing to help, or respond to questions.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes it did!
As mentioned I worked in corporate America from the age of 15. Worked for my last corporation for just about 13 years! And the story is one of Miracles and Gods faithfulness.
As you know its incredibly hard to leave corporate, especially when you’ve been there for so long, and you get “comfortable”. It took my very best friends getting laid off to realize, that nothing is promised, and I knew I needed to start something of my own. So I started my graphic design shop back in 2018, now I had been designing since 2010 for friends and was always the “go to” friend to design parties, events and invites. But I took it serious in 2018. So from my corporate gig, I saved funds to invest into computers, printers etc and I started building my online design shop. Soon I felt God call me to something greater and thats when I expanded to Amor Clothing Co.
The day I moved in to our first actual store, that currently holds our products, was the same day I was laid off from my 13 year corporate job! Theres so many more details from this story, but that was God opening one door, and then closing another. All for the better.
To this day, we thank God every single morning for the life He has provided for us.
We worked tedious hours, 7am-4pm in corporate then 4pm-12am for many months, allowing ourselves to build this on the side. And hard work, prayer and Gods blessings came through.
I will always share this story, and tell others that you can do it too. It takes hard work, it takes investing, saving and knowing that you take a short term loss, for a long term gain.
