We were lucky to catch up with Dian Williamson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I have a women’s empowerment blog on Facebook and Instagram called Becoming The Woman God Designed Me To Be. The blog encourages and inspires women to be the best they can be in God. We do that through a variety of video series, quotes and life affirmations. We also give back to the community through clothing drives, feminine drives & cooking for the homeless. My original boutique name was ‘Safie Women’s Clothing ” using my middle name, but I decided to change the name and build a brand through my blog and as a result I changed it to “Becoming The Woman Boutique” which combines Faith & Fashion.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in a beautiful country called Nassau, Bahamas. We are known for our beautiful waters, exciting culture and kind people. I relocated to the US in 2016 and I’ve lived in New York, Georgia and now Florida. I love all things tropical so my brand is beautiful, colorful and vibrant women’s clothing and accessories. I sell bridal and evening wear also. In addition to the clothing side of the business, we enjoy giving back to the community through donations to local girls clubs and also through our monthly feeding program. Our goal is to cater to the Whole woman from the inside out and that’s why we incorporate Faith into the brand. We want to touch women’s lives from the inside out. It’s more than a boutique, it’s a ministry.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Gaining new clients is the core of any business. What works for one business may not really work for another. Having pop-up shops in different locations has really helped me to build my brand and customer base. Being able to see and touch the clothing before you purchase is definitely a plus.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn is that while it’s great to have the support of friends and family, it should not be your only source. In any business you have to constantly think of new ways to get new customers so that your brand can continue to grow.
