We were lucky to catch up with Diamondz Gurll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diamondz, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I am a firm believer in God’s timing and that everything happens for a reason. From a young age, I always knew I was destined to be a performer. Growing up, I would dance and sing all around the house, putting on shows, creating imaginary stages, and pretending to win awards. Whether it was music, acting, or any form of art, I was determined to convince my family that being a professional entertainer was my true purpose.
At 16, I finally got the opportunity to prove it. I auditioned to be an opening act for a local youth talent tour across the tri-state area. I wowed the tour directors and investors and won over the crowd, securing a headlining spot despite having no original music at the time. That moment was a turning point. Other opportunities began to arise, and I knew I was stepping into my purpose.
Since then, I’ve been on multiple tours as an artist performing under the artist name, **DiamondzGurll**. I starred in a highly requested gospel play titled *Too Blessed to Be Stressed* that touched the hearts of many. I’ve opened for artists like CoCo Jones, Tweet, Lil Mo, Yung Joc, and Sammie, to name a few. I’ve also won awards such as *Best Pop Artist of the Year* at the CMMAs in Fredericksburg, VA, in 2015. I released my EP, *DGTO*, and several singles while juggling challenges like limited funding.
Growing up with a single mom who is disabled but still provided immensely and a mommom who worked tirelessly to provide for me and my younger sister, I never wanted to burden them with the costs of pursuing such a demanding career. Yet, they supported me as much as they could, helping me push forward when it seemed impossible.
In 2019, my life shifted when I became a mother. I stopped performing and felt disconnected from myself—music wasn’t just my craft; it was my life. Still, I found new ways to stay creative, launching **#NoFilter: The Podcast** and my clothing and apparel line, **Creative Educated and Optimistic (C.E.O.)**. These ventures gave me the motivation to keep dreaming, even when others doubted me.
In June 2021, I fell seriously ill, which caused financial and emotional setbacks. I lost my job, struggled to find new work while being a student and a parent, and was grieving the loss of my mommom in January 2022—a pillar of love and support in my life. But even in my darkest moments, I held onto her favorite Bible verse, *“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)*. Her faith and love pushed me to keep going.
In September 2023, I released my single, *Call Me* featuring YoLeaf, marking my return to music. Since then, I’ve been on a roll—dropping my hit song *Stupid Cupid* in February 2024 (music video coming soon!), performing at various events, landing roles in two upcoming series, and hosting my podcast and radio show on WCCR at Rutgers University-Camden. I’ll also be graduating in January 2025.
Although finances and time remain challenges, I’ve learned to trust God’s plan. Starting my career at 16 was perfect timing, even if I sometimes wonder what might have been had I started earlier or later. Ultimately, I believe everything happens for a reason. Each step in my journey has shaped me into the artist I am today, and I’m grateful for the lessons and resilience I’ve gained along the way.
As I continue to build my career, part of my dream is to give back by opening a performing arts school for underprivileged youth. I want to provide them with the opportunities I fought hard to create for myself, empowering them to shine in the creative arts. I believe I’ll achieve this dream, so long as I remember my mommom’s words and keep moving forward with faith, love, hard work, and most of all—trust in God.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Diamond, but most know me by my stage name, DiamondzGurll (pronounced “Diamond Girl”). I’m a 27-year-old Pisces, a proud mom, a college student about to graduate, and a multi-talented entertainer. My career spans singing, songwriting, acting, modeling, hosting, being an on-air personality, and content creation. I’m also a business owner and influencer. What sets me apart is my versatility—I thrive in multiple areas of entertainment while balancing the challenges of being a single mom and pursuing my education.
From the moment I was a child, performing has been my passion. I always knew I was destined for the stage, whether it was singing, dancing, or acting. I started professionally at 16 when I earned a spot on a local youth talent tour and captured the audience with my voice. Since then, I’ve released music like my EP “DGTO”and singles such as “Call Me” and “Stupid Cupid”, performed in plays like “Too Blessed to Be Stressed”, and opened for artists like CoCo Jones, Tweet, Lil Mo, Yung Joc, and Sammie. My journey hasn’t been easy—I’ve faced financial challenges, the loss of my mommom, and the pressures of single motherhood—but through faith and determination, I’ve continued to rise.
In addition to music and entertainment, I host #NoFilter: The Podcast/Radio Show, which airs every Friday on WCCR at Rutgers University-Camden, and I run my own clothing and apparel line, Creative Educated and Optimistic (C.E.O.). These ventures allow me to connect with my audience beyond performance, inspiring them to embrace their creativity and resilience.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to excel in many areas of entertainment while staying authentic and grounded. I’m most proud of achieving everything I have so far—releasing music, performing on major stages, hosting events, and earning my college degree—all while being a single mother. Every accomplishment is a testament to my perseverance and trust in God; and I hope it inspires others to chase their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
To my supporters/framily, lovingly known as The #DiamondzMine, I want you to know that I am here to break barriers and redefine what’s possible with #TeamDIAMONDZ by my side. I’ve faced stereotypes and been counted out, but by the grace of God and your support, I am winning and will continue to win. Together, we’re building something extraordinary, and I am committed to breaking generational curses and creating wealth and opportunities for my family and others.
Through music, fashion, storytelling, and connecting with my community, I’m on a mission to uplift, inspire, and create. I am DiamondzGurll, and this is only the beginning of what’s to come.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is having the opportunity to do what I truly love—music. Music has always been the foundation that connects all my other endeavors as an entertainer. Whether I’m singing, hosting, acting, or even creating through other outlets like my clothing line, it all ties back to my love for storytelling and expression through sound and voice. Sharing my music and other talents with the world is more than just a passion; it’s a blessing. It’s humbling to know that something I create can resonate with someone, uplift their spirit, or even inspire them. I thank God every day for this gift and for allowing me to use it to bring joy, connection, and positivity into the lives of others. That’s what keeps me going—it’s about the impact, the love, and the ability to touch their ears and hearts.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a deep, personal mission: to not only become a legendary entertainer and music artist but, more importantly, to provide a life for my family that breaks generational curses and creates generational wealth. My ultimate dream is to give back to my mom and my mommom, ensuring they would never have to worry about finances again. I’ve always imagined them sitting back, putting their feet up, and reaping the benefits and blessings from my success as a multi-talented entertainer.
Growing up, we didn’t always have the means to pursue every opportunity, but my mom and mommom worked tirelessly to help me chase my dreams. They sacrificed so much, supporting me in my music and creative endeavors since I was 16. Taking a small break to have my son in 2019 and diving back into my craft in 2023, I’m not yet globally successful. Tragically, my mommom, God rest her soul, is no longer here to witness my ongoing journey. She worked all the way up until her passing, and that deeply breaks my heart. But it also ignites a fire within me to push harder—to make sure my mom, my child, my younger sister, and every loved one who has supported me can reap the benefits of my success.
My mommom’s favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, says, ‘I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.’ She instilled that in me, and it’s become my mantra. I know, with God leading my path, I cannot fail. I will WIN. I will achieve every dream and passion I’ve worked for, creating opportunities for my family for generations to come.
But it doesn’t stop there. I also want to give back to young people in situations like mine—those who just need someone to see their potential, believe in them, and take a chance on them, just as my family has done for me. My journey is about honoring my family’s sacrifices and leaving a legacy of hope, strength, and opportunity for others. That is what fuels me every single day.
