We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diamond P a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Diamond thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Two of the most meaningful projects that I’ve worked on and still working on til this day is the Gun Violence Awareness Project & the Breast Cancer Awareness Project.
November 27th changed my life completely. I was in the process of moving to a new residence and picking up my daughter from school when I received a phone call from some detectives, at that moment questions was asked and they needed to meet up with me. I requested that they meet me at my daughters school because I wasn’t for sure what they wanted. Approximately 45 minutes later the detectives arrived and at that moment my entire life took the worst turn EVER. I was informed that my son had been murdered. As of today I’m awaiting a trial date. I’m currently putting together a foundation in honor of my son, conducting public speaking engagements about Gun Violence & more. I can’t display too many details of my son’s murder case because again a trial has not been conducted.
Moving forward, November 2020 I noticed that my breast went from a C cup to a F cup within 30 days, that was not normal being the fact that I’m only 5’4. I called my doctor and my appointment was set. My doctor agreed that this was very much not normal and requested that I have a breast reduction. Anytime that you are having tissue(s) removed, the tissue(s) has to be tested. Weeks later, I received a personal phone call from my doctor stating that I had stage 2 Breast Cancer. Again, another turning point in my life. Nonetheless, I’m so proud of myself for acknowledging the fact that something wasn’t right about my breast and I immediately acted on it. Per conversation with my doctor, had I NOT acted on my instincts, I probably wouldn’t be here today. I’ve always supported Breast Cancer, however, never did I ever imagined that I would be the one that has it. Currently, I have a breast cancer coach, a cancer therapist, I’ve had 4 surgeries so far and I’m fighting a battle that I REFUSE to lose. I’m a Breast Cancer advocate, I have a Breast Cancer T Shirt line that I’m currently working on, also I’m working on using my voice and situation to encourage more women who comes from where I come from (the hood) to get tested. Regardless of my situations, I’m still young and God didn’t bring me this far in my life to give up. Giving up has NEVER been an option for me and it NEVER will. I will continue to fight till the end. My voice is like a microphone, it shall be heard. Always remember, your life is what YOU make of it. One of my quotes for my T-Shirt line is:
Diamond P Original Quote:
We Walk By Faith, Not By Hate.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For the ones who may not know me, my name is Diamond P, born and raised in the dirty south Atlanta, Westside Bankhead to be exact. I started in the Entertainment Industry years ago as a rapper, however, I was only doing hooks for people and it went from doing hooks to songs to doing features. As the years went by and my name started to get out there more, I began to expand my career in the Entertainment Industry, from becoming a Radio Personality to Actress, Red Carpet Host, Social Media Influence and more. What sets me apart from others is that I have my own mind and I don’t worry or concern myself with what others do. I created my own lane so that I can control all incoming and outgoing traffic. What I’m most proud of is that regardless of how many obstacles was thrown my way, I keep my faith in God and never folded.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To be honest, I don’t set goals. There’s no limit to what I can achieve in life. My level of life is to Succeed To Exceed.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I don’t believe that there’s an unlearn lesson when it comes to life, we all have done things that we are not so proud of. In my opinion I live my live with no regrets, I just call them life learning experiences that you should learn from so that you don’t make that “mistake” again. My backstory is trusting the wrong people..my lesson to myself, protect your energy and space. Continue to stay focused, positive and always keep God 1st.
