We were lucky to catch up with Diamond Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
For years, I worked in HR, navigating the ins and outs of employee relations, recruitment, and corporate policy. On the surface, it was a career that offered stability, steady growth, and a clear path forward. I was good at what I did, and I knew the ropes. I found joy in my ability to make a difference in the lives of others, but underneath the surface, the job had started to take a toll.
The demands of corporate America and the long hours had begun to wear me down. The pressure to meet deadlines, manage complex employee issues, and deal with high expectations left me feeling drained. I needed something to counterbalance the stress, to escape the daily demands of the job, and to give myself a mental break.
That’s when I turned to baking. What started as a simple way to unwind soon became my creative outlet. I began experimenting with different recipes and making treats for friends and family. Baking was the one thing that allowed me to escape the stress of work, and the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with my hands gave me a sense of accomplishment. What I loved most was that, I was still making a positive impact in the lives of others—just in a completely different way.
The decision to pivot from HR to baking didn’t come overnight. As my job became more stressful, I turned to prayer. I sought God for direction and guidance, relying on Him for the clarity I needed on the path I should take. In my time of prayer, I felt a deep sense of assurance in my heart that I was being led toward something new. God was urging me to step out of my comfort zone and pursue what brought me joy—baking.
Thus, Mooches Bakery was born.
The road to building a successful business has been far from smooth. There were and continue to be countless challenges—financial stress, the pressure of building a customer base from scratch, and, of course, my own self-doubt. I often questioned if I could handle the unpredictability of being an entrepreneur. But with each challenge, I am learning and growing. More importantly, I am beginning to see the joy that my baked goods brings to people, which fuels my passion even more. Every positive feedback and return customer is a victory.
Today, I’ve found a level of fulfillment I never imagined possible. I’ve created something that is truly mine, and it’s become more than just a way to make a living—it’s a testament to following God, pursuing your passion and taking risks.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello! I’m Diamond Jones, the founder and owner of Mooches Bakery, a business born out of a passion for baking and a desire to create something that brings joy to people’s lives. My journey into the baking industry was an unexpected one. For years, I worked in Human Resources, helping people navigate their careers and solve workplace challenges. While I was good at it and enjoyed making a difference in the lives of others, the demanding hours, stress, and toxic environment started to wear me down. I knew I needed something to help balance the pressure, and that’s when I turned to baking.
What began as a hobby to unwind and de-stress eventually turned into a creative outlet that I became deeply passionate about. I started experimenting with recipes and creating sweet treats for friends and family, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Baking became a form of therapy for me—it allowed me to channel my energy into something creative and rewarding, and it provided me with the satisfaction of creating something beautiful from scratch.
The turning point came when I realized this wasn’t just a hobby—it could be a full-time career. After months of prayer and seeking God’s guidance, I decided to make the leap and pivot from HR to start my own baking business. I took a risk, followed my passion, and Mooches Bakery was born.
At Mooches Bakery, we specialize in gourmet cookies that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Whether you’re craving a sweet treat, a midnight snack, or something special for a celebration, we’ve got you covered. From birthdays and weddings to baby showers and other special occasions, our cookies are designed to add that extra touch of sweetness to your celebrations.
What sets Mooches Bakery apart is our deep commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. While there are many bakeries out there, we stand out because of the genuine love and care we put into every single order. This business isn’t just about making money—it’s about building relationships, creating memories, and sharing moments of joy through our treats.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how far Mooches Bakery has come since I first made the decision to pivot my career. Starting something new has been scary, but it’s been so rewarding to see the business grow. More than just the success of the business itself, I’m proud of the community we’ve built and the connections we’ve made with our clients. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that our baked goods are a part of people’s most cherished moments.
I’m also proud of the way I’ve been able to incorporate my faith and values into my business. Every step of this journey has been guided by prayer and a desire to use my gifts to bless others. I feel incredibly fortunate to do something I love, while also making a positive impact on those around me.
When you choose Mooches Bakery, you’re not just choosing a bakery—you’re choosing a business that cares about you and your special moments. We’re more than just a business; we’re a part of your story, and we’re honored to be a part of your milestones.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Several key factors helped establish Mooches Bakery’s reputation:
Commitment to Quality: I knew that quality would shine through in the taste. Customers quickly began to recognize that the product was exceptional, and word spread. When you deliver a consistently great product, people keep coming back and recommend you to others.
Customer Service and Building Relationships: The relationships I’ve built with my customers have been pivotal in my reputation. I take the time to connect with people, respond promptly to inquiries, and ensure that every interaction feels warm and genuine. When customers feel like they are more than just a transaction, they’re more likely to become repeat clients and spread positive word-of-mouth.
Passion and Authenticity: I believe that my passion for baking and my authenticity in doing what I love shines through in every batch. Customers can sense when a business is driven by passion and care. I’ve always been transparent about my journey and the heart behind Mooches Bakery, and I think that genuine approach has resonated with my audience.
Consistency: Whether it’s the flavor, design, or service, I made sure to maintain consistency in every order. Customers rely on consistency, and when they know they can count on you to deliver the same great experience every time, it helps build trust and loyalty.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has definitely been word of mouth and referrals. When I first started Mooches Bakery, I relied heavily on personal connections—friends, family, and colleagues—to help spread the word. Over time, those connections turned into loyal customers who shared their positive experiences with others. The power of a recommendation from someone you trust is invaluable, and it has been the most effective way for my business to grow.
Happy customers are often eager to tell others about their experience, especially when they feel like they’ve found something special. Referrals not only bring in new clients, but they also carry a built-in level of trust, which is so important in a competitive market.
I’m incredibly grateful for the strong support from my customers who have been kind enough to share Mooches Bakery with others. Word of mouth has built the foundation of my client base and continues to be a driving force behind the growth of my business.
