We recently connected with Diamond Capreé and have shared our conversation below.
Diamond , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career was about nine years old. I always love singing. In fact, no one knew I can sing until I was about nine, but I knew at the age of five. I remember learning lyrics really quick from artist songs. Honestly, Disney channel opened my eyes as a child, knowing that you can pursue a dream other than what society tells you, you have to. Everyone on the shows had multiple talents, singing, acting, dancing, so I knew young that it’s possible to pursue a creative path as a career.

Diamond , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For people who may not know about me, I come from a small town where a lot of people don’t pursue their dreams. I grew up around a lot of people who only knew one path to success, graduate from high school, go to college, get a job so you can have great benefits and live a decent life. I knew at a young age I was musically inclined. I always kept it under wraps and sort of secretive. The reason for this is because I wasn’t surrounded by supportive people, or people who thought dreams could come true, so I suppressed mine. For that it was to my detriment because I harbored my gift instead of developing it at a younger age. No one gave me the sense of anything was possible, if I put my mind to it. So I was sing to myself or sing quietly, not loud so people couldn’t hear me, which is why I have such a lower tone now as an adult. With keeping music to myself, most of my years, the gift I develop that I use most now is listening, listening to lyrics, listening to tracks, listening to how songs are being made, which is a big part of why I love interviews. Didn’t realize by doing that. I was developing my song writing skills just by listening to how songs are being written. Now I’m older and pursuing my dreams everything I went through when I was younger help me to be the artist I am today. I record myself. I write my own songs. I edit my own songs. I mix and master my own songs. I do my own cover arts, and this is all by default not because I want to but because I have to. I realized that no one‘s going to save you. You have to be willing to fight for yourself when no one else will and that’s what I love the most about myself and that’s what I want other people to know about me m. I don’t rest on my laurels. I’ fight for what I want and I keep dreaming. With my style of music I’m straight, R&B. I don’t know any other way to be.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal of why I’m pursuing music is for one because I truly love it. I love the craft of it. You know some people think that pursuing this type of career is just for fame and money but for me is the total opposite. I actually wish I was good at something that I wouldn’t have to be seen in doing just because I’m truly an introvert, but God gave me the gift of singing, and that involves other factors that I’m not truly into like exposing yourself on different levels. The reason why I’m pursuing this is because I truly love making music and I want be happy in my one lifetime. I want to be able to wake up and do what I want, when I want, how I want, I don’t want to have to answer to anyone. I want my life to be lived on my terms and being an artist gives me that freedom. Another reason why I’m pursuing my dream so hard it’s because I’m surrounded by a lot of people who doubt me m, who don’t see my potential, don’t want me to prosper or just be great in life in general and me being a rebellious type of person I want prove them wrong, and I want to prove to myself that I can be great. I also want to show my future children that you don’t have to settle for what you don’t want, you can actually go out in this world and be exactly who you want as long as you keep God first, you pray and you work hard. I don’t want anyone to be able to tell me I can’t do something. I don’t even want to tell myself I can’t do it. I want to be able to give my children. An example of you could be exactly who you want be with hard work and discipline.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
For me, I’ve been pursuing this dream on my own and by myself for a long time so I learned to meditate, right down my affirmations, and say them out loud in front of the mirror. I consistently have to tell myself, I’m beautiful, I’m great, I can become whoever I want. God is my friend and a few others that I say to myself every morning. I read a lot of self-help books like “Be Bold” by Alex Fernandez, “get out of your way” by Russ, The Law of Attraction by Michael J. Losier & “Confidence” by Martin Meadows. I also read a lot of books by artists and entertainers. I’m intrigued by their memoirs they give a lot of insight of how they achieved their journeys, and it’s a lot similar to mine. I love interviews and podcasts, and just listening to peoples testimonies and stories of how they navigated their way to success.
