We recently connected with Diamon Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Diamon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
When I started my business I wanted to do something that resonated with who I am as a person. I sat down with myself for months and thought, “How can I be a successful businesswomen doing something that I love?” The idea was scary at first because to me because beading started as just a hobby and not something I could truly profit from. I realized that my style and aesthetic is my brand so why not capitalize on it? It all began to sense from there—my fascination with stones, jewelry, nature and fashion evolved into what is now •Beads by D•. From then I curated custom jewelry pieces that feature a variety of stones and beads that resonate with me both spiritually and creatively. I began making rings, bracelets, necklaces, thigh-beads, and even beaded paintings from natural stones. I wanted it to not just be a business but a representation of myself and my interests as a whole.
Diamon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One thing that I want customers to know about our brand is that everything is custom-made. Making jewelry that feed the soul by accentuating the body and overall vibe of those who wear them. The beading process begins once a measurement of taken of the circumference of where they would like the beads to lie. This is sure to make for a perfect for those who use them to track weight-loss or other physiological changes. This is why we make jewelry to fit all shapes and sizes while also incorporating different stones which have different healing properties as well. Our accessories ensure originality and stylish comfortability.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A particular story that illustrates my resilience would be getting through college and graduating with honors. Upon graduating from the highly esteemed Hume-Fogg High School I decided to further my education in Psychology with The University of Memphis. I’ve always excelled in academia; fortunately, I was blessed with the opportunity to have my undergrad tuition be covered from the help of different scholarships. I graduated with no debt and was able to begin doing what I love— helping people. I enjoy my full time job and plan on returning to school in the near future. Hopefully my creative passions and educational/vocational endeavors will cross paths so that I can continue blessing others the way I’ve been blessed!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The greatest pivot I’ve experienced was when I officially began investing in my creative passion of making custom jewelry. After graduating college. I have always been so focused and immersed in my educational career that I often neglected my creative aspirations. I learned that both work and self expression are both equally as important. Balance is something I had to get better with as time progressed allowing myself the time and resources to begin my small business journey. Now, I understand the importance of being multifaceted in this fast paced world we live in. Trusting the process and remaining balanced spiritually, emotionally, and physically has allowed my pivot to be successful in the long run.
