We recently connected with Diamante Murru and have shared our conversation below.
Diamante, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It all started when I was a child, watching my mom paint for her commissions. She worked on different surfaces with such creativity and passion, and I knew early on that I wanted to follow a similar path. As I grew older, especially in my teenage years, I made a promise to myself that no matter what, I would always pursue something creative. That drive led me to experiment with various art forms: body painting, photography, and different crafts, exploring each medium until I found the one(s) that truly resonated with me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Diamante, I’m a multidisciplinary Artist from Sardinia, currently living in Los Angeles. My journey in art started at a very young age, and after finishing art school, I knew this was the path I wanted to follow. My transition into tattooing actually began after I got my first tattoos at 19. I was drawn to the idea of working on a new surface, the human body, which felt like a natural extension of the art I was already creating with body painting.
I do a lot of cover-ups, and what truly makes my job special is the ability to help people rediscover or reconnect with their identity through their bodies. Every artist has their own approach to this art form, and for me, the connection I build with my clients plays a huge role. I draw a lot of inspiration from my travels, and I love weaving those experiences into my tattoo designs. My style is pretty consistent, but I’m always challenging myself to grow and improve.
I’m incredibly proud of the special connection I’ve built with my clients and the unique experience I offer in my studio. Beyond tattooing, I’m deeply passionate about sustainability, which led me to create my own plastic-free, biodegradable tattoo supply company. This initiative allows me to work completely plastic-free while also giving back to the tattoo industry by providing an eco-friendly alternative. Balancing this project with my full-time career as a tattoo artist was a challenging decision, but it was important to me to contribute something meaningful. My goal has always been to bring a positive change to the industry and empower other artists to embrace sustainability as well.
When clients walk into my studio, I want them to feel the love and respect I have for them. I want them to know that I truly care about the experience they’re having and the personal transformation that comes with it.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Many people who aren’t creatively inclined struggle to understand the deep, almost physical need to create. They often mistake our dedication for workaholism, but for us, creativity isn’t just a job, it’s as essential as breathing. When your passion becomes your profession, there’s no real separation between work and life; creativity is woven into everything we do. We don’t ‘clock out’ from it because it’s not just what we do, it’s who we are.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is having the opportunity to do what I love every single day. I genuinely love my job. Being my own boss gives me the freedom to create on my own terms while connecting with other incredible, like-minded creatives. That sense of independence and artistic expression is something I truly cherish.
