We recently connected with Dhruvi Darji and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dhruvi , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
As a child I knew I had to in front of the crowd. PERFORM! Be the star of the night. I started dancing jazz and folk at first until I had to give up on it due to a health problem. And then I found Music in my life. It inspired my at a whole different level. The energy, the vibration, the atmosphere that music can create is and achieve is just incredible. I pursued DJ’ing at an early age during my middle school and performed at various venues back in India. I did not actually believe that I could sing until I sang and heard my own self, which is actually quite funny. I was amazed and taken by my own voice and I just had this “ calling “ or these “flashes” in my head of myself in the future performing at arenas and the best concerts. People might call me delusional but I put the desire and the dream into work and make it my reality. I prefer to take inspiration from myself and my own journey, which is want makes me authentic as an artist and a human being.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I started off as a DJ in 2018 before the pandemic, in India. I got into the industry because I had made connections over the time in the industry and managed to get myself gigs. It was pretty hard in the start because I was criticised in the start and I still might be, but I can take criticism, it is what fuels my artistic/ creative process. I pretty much started earning off of my first few gigs which was kind of an advantage for me; shoutout to the people who had my back! I DJ’d for almost 5 years with a break in the middle due to the covid situation. I used to do live gigs on social media from home during that break period which kept me alive in the scene and relevant in the industry. I recently found out that I can sing and write my own music, specifically, lyrics on a professional level. My main genres would be R&B infused hip hop, Afrobeat and Reggaetton. It is basically a blend of all styles infused with a bit of Rhythm and blues which is what makes my music stand out! I like to be realistic and honest with my music and songs! I usually write about my current situation, scenario in my life or something that inspires or sets me off the ground! The lyrics are as honest as one could be and they can be really relatable to the audience and masses!
Droovy, as a brand, as an artist, and as a human being is versatile and unique in her own way! She does not like to limit herself to anything, so she always tries something new in her songs! A new element or a rap verse or a catchy bridge or hook! There could be a lot of possibilities and she doesn’t fear to explore any of those. She writes and sings from her heart and is a confident yet a humble person. Her creative process usually includes breaking her songs down from the scratching, song mapping the structure, style, tone and the mood of the song. One thing about her is that she loves having honest and deep conversations about life and spirituality which is also written and spoken about in her songs. She is committed to her passion and the drive to become the next diva, the next sensational icon of the 21st century.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes my goal is to reach the masses from all over and motivate and encourage people to look at the brighter side of things even when it gets dark. “Even when you die, in the midst of darkness, you see a door with a shining bright light calling out to your soul. I have a lot to say about life, the system, the matrix, heartbreaks, independence, etc
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
That I can speak life through music and I don’t necessarily have to explain myself. I put my emotions into the paper and I think that’s the bravest and the most courageous thing an artist does; conveys the feeling through music. Words aren’t enough.
