We were lucky to catch up with Deyla Wheagar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Deyla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Sacrifice, hunger and faith. Oftentimes we frown upon the word “sacrifice”, mainly because it is often painted as a negative word. But I have learned that sacrifice can serve us positively and be a benefit to us overall. Sacrifice is the offer that one puts on a table in exchange for battle scars. Battle scars that carry strength, wisdom. love, patience, compassion and even joy. It is with our previous battle scars that we are able to go into the next phase of our life storm or business venture, knowing that whatever does not kill us, certainly will make us stronger. In my point of view, success requires a level of sacrifice. How much are you willing to put on the table? You will fall, you will be embarrassed, you will be wrong, you will be confused, you will be misunderstood and criticized but you will walk away with a bag filled with strength, wisdom, love, patience, compassion and even joy. Sacrifice is like a sweet and salty snack, it keeps us strong yet humble.
Hunger on the other hand, takes us into places, meeting people and doing things that we did not plan for. Hunger has the ability to unlock doors and swing a gate of opportunities wide open. You see, hunger is like a divine navigation, it keeps your pallets wet, your mind working and your eyes open. Hunger can feel like pain when there is no gain. Hunger will humble you to eat what you have as you hope for more. Hunger will teach you how to savor the moment. Hunger can render the power of being patient with our process. Hunger has the ability to drive us into our next destination, if we follow carefully. I believe that in order to obtain success, one must be hungry.
Faith is the secret weapon of it all that ties everything together into a complete package. Faith is having the ability to believe in something that you have not yet seen. Believing with all your heart and mind that is so. Faith is holding on to hope. Faith is believing in something greater than yourself. Faith is giving God the space to do what we can not do. Faith is doing your part and letting God do the rest. Faith is taking a lick in order to keep on ticking. Faith says I am going to show up even though I cannot see the evidence. Faith fights against doubt and fear, standing boldly on hope and courage. Faith is having the audacity to believe even if you are the only one believing. Faith is taking a chance to look silly, to be embarrassed as you hold on tight to what you believe in. Someone that is pursuing success, has some level of faith that keeps them growing and glowing towards the end goal.
Sacrifice, hunger and faith speaks loudly to me as I think about what it takes to be successful.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My gift of teaching and my love for faith and business, gave me the opportunity to become a faith based business coach, offering business development services to small business owners. (One on one coaching, courses/trainings, flyer design, website design and logo design.) For the last three years, I have been meeting weekly with faith based entrepreneurs from all around the world on a weekly basis on my podcast named ‘The faith and biz podcast” where I teach how to take a God given business idea from an idea to a movement. On the show I share business tips, faith filled testimonies and much more. On my YouTube channel, I share more about my personal walk with God, encouraging believers from all walks of life. I love teaching, cultivating and creating.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first began my coaching business I was discouraged because I had no idea what I was doing. I remember doing what I knew best which was to teach my clients what they needed to learn about business and branding. Though I did not go to college for this specific avenue, I did what I knew best and grew from there. I fought against my desire of wanting to have everything perfect and wanting to bring in $100k in my first year. I was resilient in remaining patient with my process. Being patient has gifted me confidence and wisdom to continue to grow my brand and business. My advice to anyone just starting out in their business will be do what know, do what you can and everything else will fall in its place at its own time. Today I lead my business, serving my clients knowing that I am building a solid business that last for generations to come. Slow and steady, meek and content.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Stop trying to do everything by myself!!!! For the first two years of my business, I spent a lot of time trying to wear so many different hats. I was overworked, mentally drained and tired all the time. Until I finally learned the power this phrase “For everything I hate to do, there is someone out there that loves to do it.” I hate creating new graphics, keeping track of finances, responding to emails and for all of that there are people that I can hire that can do those things for me. As long as you have the resources, you can invest and save yourself time, money and mental blocks. Once I turned to investing and out sourcing, I have never looked back!!
