We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dex Canvas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dex below.
Dex, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Knowing where to invest:
No matter what field you are in, business owners generally have the same business model. You will more than likely have to promote and market your brand. Investments will have to be made to reach more consumers. Although I understood the importance of investing, I had no idea how to know which sources would benefit my business (music), and which ones were reliable.
I invested a lot of time in creating the best musical content possible. It wasn’t until I released my content to my small following that it was just as important to make investments on the business side. At some point, I knew I had to covert my passion to a profitable business.

Dex, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a musician and visual artist. I rap, sing, produce, write, and engineer music. I got into music after graduating high school. Initially, music was a safe way for me to release stress, but it quickly became a necessity.
Although Hip-Hop is my preferred genre, all forms of music inspire me. Most people describe my music to be melodic, fun, and lyrical. I always add that I’m versatile.
Through networking and collaborating with friends and music-based companies, I have had the opportunity to open up and share the same stage as artists such as Xavier Omar, ELAHE, Metro Mars, Duke Deuce, Offset, and Lil Scrappy, plus more. While I am very grateful to have had those opportunities, my biggest accomplishment will always be having the ability to make people feel and become vulnerable.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to help people through life situations. My art stems from real-life experiences, and the responses I get from my music are authentic raw emotions. I began making music and creating art to cope with personal stressors. It means everything knowing I make stressful situations a little easier for people.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I typically don’t set goals. If I do, they’re short-term. I’m just a creative person. Music and visual art are my life. I plan on doing a lot of good things on my journey. I can’t explain what drives me to create. I’m not sure what propels me to create. It’s an urge that I can not fight, a god-giving urge.
