Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deward Lawrence. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deward, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
My first real experience about the film making craft of production occurred in 2014 when a friend referred me to a production company that needed assistance. Since my back ground was a living historian , I had a great deal of military uniforms and equipment specializing in WW2 and they needed help in wardrobe and actors. Having been in the living history business since 1999, I never thought that my exposure to locations and events would have ever panned out to a means to make a living and a means to remain creative. Of course , if I had met more people in the entertainment business before 2014 , I’m sure I would of had succeed more at my craft and understanding the nature of the business. The only obstacles were the right connections and over coming mental blocks that prevented me from expanding my horizon’s.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have been a Dallas, TX deep elm artist since back in the 90’s and tried my hand at the music business in the late 1970’s. Since 2014 I have acted , produced and written short/ film stories. My first feature film is currently on Amazon Prime called “The Front”. Other examples of my work can be found on my you tube channel. As of lately , my short films have been being recognized in film festivals of which we won recently the Austin, Texas arts festival for best war short and have received semifinalists in other festivals too. Likewise, I’d say with in the last five years more people have contacted me to commission me on their projects and I have provided assistance to many clients in making their vision come true. I’m mostly proud of my latest works and acknowledge it takes a team effort to make something from beginning to end like a film or a record or a story. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7708411

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being creative and wanting to create is a passion come true. It is very rewarding to accomplish a project and to have your peers acknowledge you. It is rewarding to win film festivals and for people to contact me about their future projects. Net working , communications and gaining value from my efforts is most a priceless over all reward.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think people of like mind understand each others creativity and should support the artist to continue their vision’s in any way possible. Enlightenment and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and society always has a craving for visual art. Therefore, I feel society should help promote artists. Artist’s can bring color to gray and dark places. Artists can spark society’s imagination. Artist’s need society’s support and recognition.
