Devyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I absolutely love being a business owner, my ability to help many people while still maintaining a work/life balance is something that I am so grateful for. Once or twice have I thought what it would be like to have a regular job— as a wellness therapist that does reiki and massage and crystal healing, I have a lot of overhead including office rent, oils, lotions, crystals, sheets, tissues, disinfectant wipes, advertisements, business software, and more. And crystals aren’t cheap! So, I sometimes wonder how much easier and less stressful it would be if I had someone else take care of all that. But then I realize I would be sacrificing my freedom, flexibility, and creative control of my brand. And that is more valuable than any small stressors that come with being a business owner.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was just 13 years old when I began my spiritual and wellness journey. I knew at this early age that my calling was something higher and transcendent but couldn’t be explained by organized religions. So, I studied everything from ancient mythology to Hollywood vampire lore. And if that wasn’t enough to make me sound like a nerd, I’m also known as a walking library of the occult and esoteric. My duty as a healer initiated when I became a massage therapist. I was innately adept at it, as if I had done this work before in another life. My practice evolved when I achieved Reiki Master and Crystal Master. It, in a way, leveled me up to be an even greater healer. Being how the massage side of my business was successful and fully booked, I decided to move in the direction of the spiritual and energetics, focusing on Reiki, Crystal Healing, Holistic Coaching, and Shamanic Healing. I have taught classes on the art of healing and spiritual exploration, educating people on practices and rituals. Additionally, versed in Chinese astrology, I provide my clients with counsel on their life path through astrological Natal Chart readings and Tarot/Oracle card readings. What sets me apart from others is my ability to offer multi-healing modalities. From the physical to the emotional to the spiritual, I am able to heal on all levels and being a healer is my life’s purpose. Some say you shouldn’t call yourself a “healer” because that takes away from the client’s ability and power to self-heal. But being a healer means to facilitate that healing, to give it a jumpstart which allows for the person to heal themselves. I also like to sometimes refer to myself as a wizard. Using my hands, crystals, tarot cards, and—yes—wands, I provide a client-centered approach to mind, body, spirit wellness. I now evolve once again as I advance my practice to Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture starting soon. Chinese medicine has always been an interest of mine. Perhaps it is because of my Chinese heritage, or just the next path of my destiny.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Instagram is the place to be to build an audience. I started by just posting about specials, promotions, and random memes. When I got serious in taking my business in the direction of Reiki, crystal healing, and shamanism, I began posting about what I know. Crystals and spirituality are an increasingly growing practice in todays society. People are open to explore what form of spirituality fits for them, but many are unsure where to start or how to practice. I began creating content to teach about crystals, energy, healing, and spirituality. People seem to really enjoy my Crystal-of-The-Day posts and learn a lot about different crystals and gemstones. When I began, I had to boost my posts a lot to get my name around, and still do to this day. I don’t have millions of followers but I am incredibly grateful for the couple thousands I have (and growing each day).
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I very first started at my own business, I could count on one hand the number of clients that followed me from my last job. I had a hefty office rent and bills to pay, so I needed clients. And fast. For the first year and a half I offered a Groupon. It was such a difficult process to do, and severely cut my income. I was doing basically $30 massages. I had to work long hours and nearly everyday of the week in order to stay afloat. But my work spoke for itself and my book began to fill up with reoccurring and regular paying clients. It was a painstaking journey to get a full book, but I stuck it out and now I don’t have to work as much and as long.
