We recently connected with Devyn Giovengo and have shared our conversation below.
Devyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew from a very young age that not only did I want to pursue a creative and artistic path. But on this path I wanted to make my own decisions and determine my own destiny.
When I was a young child I was very interested in writing, reading, drawing and building different things with blocks, legos, etc.
When I was in 5th/6th grade I started customizing, restoring, buying and trading sneakers. From 5th grade when I only had 1 or 2 pairs of sneakers, by the time I was in 7th/8th grade I had over 100 in my bedroom. From here I fell in love with sneakers and fashion. I already was in love with art and creating but doing this only took it to another level. This helped me move forward and do more artistically than just drawing like I previously was.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into media production during high school in the midst of me teaching myself graphic design for our clothing brand “Visions Attire.” From here I kept working on my craft as a graphic designer and eventually fell into videography. In the Fall semester at Thiel College in 2019 I started taking a basic video production class where I learned how to use a camera and edit on a basic level. While other students would come to class and leave class, I would find myself in the computer lab until 4am/5am and every bit of free time I had other than late nights, you could find me in there. Slowly videography turned from something fun I can use to build my brand and help my friends and flipped right into a full fledged business. After a certain amount of time I invested in better cameras, better lenses, better computers, etc.
I was working under the “Gio Made It” alias and was finally starting to make a name for myself and a splash in the Pittsburgh videography scene. After so many different projects and clients were coming in I started to expand the team. I helped Shooter Gav get his feet wet in videography and editing and Gav has assisted me on many productions. From there I started working with Darnell Visualz, Shot By Hash, Heatindacity, Dir. Chipz and more.
Finally, in 2023 I rebranded from Gio Made It to The Urban Anatomy. Here is when we introduced newest team member “VOE Flash” … And now we’re here! We have now done work for 42 Dugg, Redferrin, Baby Kia, K-Shine, 10ta Lil A, MG Sleepy, Reese Youngn, Hardo, Loccie Shmula, Woubzz, Shum Koachella and more

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel like the biggest benefit of being an artist or creative is we are literally painting the world as we go. Us as a creative community are dictating, what you guys as a society take in, see, get inspired by, etc. I feel like everyday i’m just walking around with a paintbrush and leaving my mark on the Earth as a whole.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think a lot of people who I meet that aren’t on the same journey as me don’t really understand me (not that I expect them to). I feel like most entrepreneurs get me … but as I’m around any people who aren’t entrepreneurs it’s a little more difficult to connect.
Everyday I’m working, planning and building
