We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devonte Wong-Wai a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Devonte , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I want to have my contributions last longer than the actual memories of me. I believe that entertainment, especially in media and music has infinite longevity. I want to be apart of that. I want people to look back 100+ years from now at throwback videos and my creations being some of those viewed. I want to leave a timeless impact. My persona can be forgotten but I want the work to live on. My name is on it and you can’t erase that history.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I go professionally by Vonté NYC and the nyc actually stands for ‘Ngage Your Creativity. Im a multi media mogul if you ask me. The world is just catching on slower than I’d like lol. On a serious note, I’m the guy who was Bold enough to create multi media/music platforms to say, hey this is where the talent lives. I see what everyone else is doing. I feel y’all. But check this out right here. And don’t get me wrong I salute my peers so there’s definitely no shade in my message.
Wether it be my self titled podcast, where I interviewed creatives and talent from all walks, to my freestyle series called Lyrical Flexercise, to my latest project, THE RNB PACK and all endeavors in between ; my mission is to allow expression of the art form. I’m the ring leader. I bring all the people together to make the magic.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I know I’m about to start a project, I take the super frugal approach. I save save save, and sometimes pick up extra temp work to fund majority of my projects until they grew to become profitable.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
People love a good come up story. People love the grind. Me, I’m the same. I love to watch people elevate based on skill or God given talent. You don’t have to be famous or at your claim to fame moments to get showcased by me. You can be at any level. And I think for the viewers it allows a sense of realism. It also gives hope to those who have talent and feel like they have to be a superstar to be showcased in a creative and positive light.
