We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devonte Infinity a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Devonte, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Of all topics I could speak on, I think this one is most sentimental to me and might hold the most value to whoever might understand or value me.
As far as it goes, I’ve broadly been misinterpreted for as long as I can remember. I take it as a compliment for my odd ways, mentality and lifestyle. I never saw being misunderstood as a problem to an extent, I felt it gives me a higher value in a world of ignorance and people in cultural cuffs. Being misunderstood does get me in trouble sometimes, don’t get me wrong haha. But at times I feel it’s a loss for the other party and more so convinces me to continue doing things without them. I have an infinite soul which limits my crowd in some instances yet ironically attracts people of all lifestyles and cultures.
To the working and creative spectrum, I haven’t at all shown or proved all of my talents and abilities to the world yet. I’m often interpreted as a model “only” but trust me, I’ve only been doing this since college… I’ve been working on so many different projects in different creative industries since I was a little guy. The only thing I’ve showcased publicly is modeling. I don’t feel any type of way when people assume that that’s all I am or do because that’s all I’ve really showcased. I’m aware people can only judge by what their eyes can see while I’m not here to prove myself to anyone else.
It is very often that I meet someone in the real world when we first connected on the internet and more times then not, they’re very surprised by my nature. Especially women. I’m very to myself, introverted, tight circle, don’t give many people my time or energy & don’t like going out a lot. Yet, having a very strong sense of self, personality, aura & is a natural at entertaining. I know when it’s time to turn on the switch and when I don’t have to. Some people realize that as much they see me a Rocker, it’s just as much as I’m an introvert and keeping myself away from society. I recently heard that for someone who looks so good effortlessly on camera, is known to people, works in media & the entertainment industry as well as having to be around so many people all the time, for one, is the complete opposite on his own time.
I often leave many people around me confused and although someone may feel like they understand something, I can tell if they truly do or not. And more often then not, I’m misinterpreted by the falseness of certain people feeling they understand. I’d rather just keep to myself, live life as I see fit and continue to work and strive on myself and career. I’ll let that speak for itself as I continue.
Being a mystery to the world wasn’t my choice.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Devonte Gaines (Infinity) is primarily known as a Model, Brand Ambassador, Influencer & Content Creator.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In all honesty, people have to stop hating and speaking down on everyone who’s trying to do something with themselves. Especially your own people, quit hating on them. If you have someone close to you that’s doing what they can to hustle and bring them that prosperity, show them some love. Help them, support them. An artist at that?
Another thing, quit investing so much of your time and false love into mainstream people who have already made it and don’t give a damn about you, the real world or your support when you have someone close to you who’s hungry and needs your support. Stop being delusional in this false world. Support your locals. Support your artists who are making a a difference. Support your people.
We have to do better.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To build up, create an empire & give back to the world. That’s what’s always pushed me. I’ve always known that there will be a place when I have everything I’ve ever manifested. What has pushed me and inspired me from the start is the knowledge that I am a key, I want to be successful so that those around me can be to, I want to come up so that I can bring those around me up as well, I want to be stable and successful to help those around me achieve that too.
