Devonte, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses
Evolving my business into a family business is my ultimate goal. My family is my amazing support system especially my wife. Anyone who has made the decision to start a business has been through a roller coaster of emotions due to the constant trials and tribulations. So putting in all of the hard work, long days & nights, and investing your hard earned money into something you truly believe in then I would definitely want to keep it in the family. Most of the products that we use or consume on a daily basis comes from a family owned business that has been passed down from generation to generation so that is something that I aspire to do. As a husband and father I feel it is my responsibility to lead my family into prosperity that we can all be proud of for generations to come.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My interest in this industry sparked when I was younger. HBO and Fx started airing behind of the scenes of how some of the most popular movies were made. So I started my journey by attending Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and enrolled into their Digital Media Program. After I graduated I relocated to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta further my knowledge where I gained my Bachelors in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. While getting my education I started to freelance as a videographer, photographer, and a few different positions on productions when the opportunity presented itself. Eventually, I decided to turn these services into a business which is Visionz By Von today. My company offers videography, photography, and 360 photo booth rental services. I’m constantly searching for ways to stay versatile and consistently adding new elements to the business to offer to clientele. I am most proud of the progression and that I continue to find ways to be innovative. I want all current clients and potential clients to know that Visionz By Von is aiming to be a one stop shop for all of your media related production needs.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the finished product. To see your or the client’s vision come to life is always a great feeling. Being a creative I feel that there’s a part of the brain that you have access to that others don’t. I chose to name my company after that ability which is “Vision”. One of my favorite quotes is ” Vision is art the of seeing what is invisible to others.”
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One of the resources that I wish I knew about earlier would be funding and I continue today to make sure that I do my due diligence and continuously research funding opportunities. Financial literacy is crucial in all aspects of your life. The more information you gain the more obstacles you can potentially avoid. Opportunities for business grants and gaining business credit are endless but you have to be willing to seek this information out.
