We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DeVonnda McCormick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

DeVonnda , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?

I have always been in management. When you are a manager you learn to deal with all types of people. So when I started my business I learned you can’t talk to everyone the same. Take the time to learn people and their background. I’m a really direct person but everyone can handle to be so brutal. Do as a manager I have learned how to think before I speak.

DeVonnda , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

In 2022 I received the Master Coach of the Year award from ACHI Magazine. Also in 2022, I released her first book, “Heal Your Mind and Soul Through Self Work.” This book discusses my life story and the correlation between past trauma and its effect on self-esteem. In addition, I detail and outline step-by-step ways to start to heal, think positively, and do self-work.I went to earn a B.A. degree in history from Elizabeth City State University and later furthered her studies at Capella University where I earned a M.S.Ed. Not only and I’m a Author, self esteem coach, but also image consultant. I love to see women be their authentic selves with a polished style through my eyes and what I see for them.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I have a really good following base. Remember it’s not about numbers it is about being transparent and being authentic. When people see that, then the right people will follow you. I have the most supportive people on social media some I never met.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

People believing in you! I didn’t even know I was noticed until I received Master Coach of the Year award in 2022. I’m like people really know me lol It makes you want to change the world.
