Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Devoney Kelash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Devoney, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
I do find it important to prioritize taking a break from work! Sometimes this can be easier said than done! I do my best to plan a few short vacations thru the year, even if its a quick weekend camping trip… just something to break the norm and have a change of scenery and pace of the day! I find this is really helpful for everyone in my family! We like to go camping and boating. It is refreshing to get away whether its one day or 3, or more! Maintaining a better work life balance is a goal always each year for us! Vacations are perfect way to handle this!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always had a passion for helping others! I began My Errand Ally as a way to help busy professionals and the elderly get some time back in their day. My background was in social work, so this has helped in managing our diverse client base! My business has grown over the last 6 years to now cover Maricopa County.
My team is comprised of caring savvy shoppers to assist with the requests we have. My Errand Ally helps with everyday errands, grocery delivery, wait service, courier, and vacation services. Time is precious and we are thankful to be that resource for our clients. Our clients use us as much or little as they need. We have an affordable minimum one-hour rate!
I always say, when you love what you do– it doesn’t feel like work!!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I did a lot of networking in the early parts of my business. I have always been a trustworthy and efficient person and as people meet me they can tell that about my character. I was able to share what we do at those networking meetings and at the same time was able to learn about many other businesses that are good resources for my clients. I really enjoyed the network and grass roots marketing phase. I believe building that rapport has helped my business. As I was getting more clients for errands, then alot of the growth was organically by word of mouth! I still belong to some of those same networking groups as I have formed good relationships there! People want to do business with those they trust, and my entire team exhibits strong values that have always been a part of my life!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy is to do what you say, and be reliable. Our clients see we are trustworthy and efficient with our time and theirs! They appreciate those qualities and keep returning to us for more help! Our track record has proven that our reputation in the community keeps the positive words spreading, thus growing our client base! We are so thankful for all of our clients!
