Devon, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents were an integral part of my author and creative journey. At a young age, my father supplied me with books, audiobooks, read-along records (yes, I am that old!), and comics. My mother encouraged my writing process, even when some of my short stories might have been too dark for her. She always told me that I should write books.
I would not be here without their support and guidance.
Devon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Devon Gambrell (Clark), I write fantasy and steampunk with snarky female leads and a splash of romance. I’ve been writing since middle school (we won’t go into dates, lol). I am also the founder of All Call Indie: a database of freelancers for indie authors.
When I was getting ready to find beta readers, editors, and book cover designers, I spent a lot of time on social media looking for my author friends who also provided services. They were scattered all over the interwebs, so I asked my critique partner if she could help me build a database by bringing everyone together. The best part about all this was that these indie freelancers/authors understood the industry’s struggle.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want All Call Indie to be a resource destination for readers, authors, and indie author freelancers. This is still a work in progress as we work out kinks.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I cannot stress the use of YouTube, specifically the authortube and booktube communities. Nothing quite makes an impact than a live person explaining their unique process on the same issues everyone is working on in the indie author community.
