We recently connected with Devon Bray and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Devon, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Working full time for myself has been very rewarding but not without challenges.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Devon Bray I own & opreate a film company with my family ( Bray Films) I got started shooting music videos in 2010, over 900 of them to be exact. Then in 2016 I stepped out and started doing shorts films, won an award for one of my short films & to make a long story short I found my niche & released my first film Pearl in 2018. We did a premiere at the Amc theater about a month later it was live streaming on Amazon. Fast forward to 2023 I just completed my 6th film which will premiere Nov 9th 2023 in my hometown Wichita, Ks at the Regal theater entitled ( Buy her) you can catch all my other films on Tubi, Amazon, Youtube tv, Google tv & Vudu. Pearl, Pearl 2, Unsurety, ppp loan gone, & Joint Custody. What sets me apart is my eagerness to learn more & never settle, quality over quantity is my motto, good is not enough if better is an option. What I am most proud of is being able to involve my kids & wife in what I do, it’s not easy working with family but we keep the vision & purpose center of Attention to meet all our goals. What I would like potential clients, followers or fans to know about Bray films is that we worked our butts off to get to where we are, we value relationships, we didn’t take no for an answer & never settled. Always go back to the drawing board if need be.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew I was a filmmaker earlier in my life. I say that to say don’t waste time find out what you love & good at as soon as possible so that you can master the craft before you present it to the world.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media has been vital to our success, we started building our social media following years before we had content to serve them, so they were already familiar with us when we dropped our first film. We spent years studying social media before we ever had a product or service to sell them, you have to be transparent on social media people wanna know who you are outside of what you’re trying to sell to them. You have to be consistent, creative & honest with your followers, fans & or clients. Show them through pictures & videos exactly what you do & why you do it. because of this we have built a following on social media with millions of followers & a group on Facebook with over 600,000 members and growing rapidly daily. The group is entitled ( Best new Tubi movies) the group is very engaging & brutally honest.
