We were lucky to catch up with Devin Schubert recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Devin, thanks for joining us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
One of the most unexpected turns in my journey was when I found myself standing on the edge of death—not because of a business failure, but because of the personal sacrifices I made for my family.
For years, I had built ministries, planted churches, started businesses, and even worked in child welfare, believing I had a clear vision of success. But in an instant, life threw me a storm I never saw coming—one that would force me to give up everything I had built.
What’s crazy is that I wasn’t derailed by a bad investment, a failed launch, or a business competitor—I was derailed by life itself. The unexpected divorce, the weight of single fatherhood, and the emotional toll of caring for my son pulled me away from everything I thought was permanent.
I lost everything I thought defined me. My career, my ministry, my finances, my relationships—even my health. And it wasn’t because of a bad business move. It was because I had to fight for my family.
But what I learned through that experience is this:
Life will test your definition of success. And sometimes, losing everything is what leads you to your true purpose.
For me, that purpose became helping others rise from their setbacks—turning their pain into platforms, their struggles into influence, and their stories into legacies.
And that’s why I launched Stories to Stages—because every person’s story matters, and no one should have to feel alone in their journey.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Devin Schubert, an internationally acclaimed coach, speaker, international best-selling author, and multiple award-winning entrepreneur. My journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, filled with moments that have stretched and shaped me into who I am today.
I’ve had the honor of appearing on two reality TV shows for entrepreneurs, standing out among over 100,000 applicants to showcase my skills and vision on a national stage. Those experiences sharpened my ability to think fast, adapt, and stand firm in my message.
Beyond television, I’ve built a lifestyle dedicated to empowering others through influence. Whether it’s on social media or physical stages, my mission is to help people master their message and use it to change lives. I’ve shared stages with some of the most influential names in the industry, including Eric Thomas, Pat Quinn, and Willie Robertson, and through these opportunities, I’ve helped countless individuals step into their power as leaders and storytellers through our Influence Academy Online
My latest endeavor, The School of Influence, is more than just a show—it’s a movement. It aligns with my mission to help one million people share their stories and make an impact through Stories to Stages. Because at the end of the day, stories change lives.
But beyond all of that, my most meaningful journey has been as a father. Adopting three children has transformed my heart in ways nothing else could. It’s taught me what true leadership looks like—not just on stages, but in the quiet moments, the sacrifices, and the unwavering commitment to showing up, even when it’s hard.
Everything I do—every speech, every post, every program—is about legacy. Not just mine, but yours too. Because legends don’t just live—they leave a legacy.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Growing a social media audience can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re starting from scratch. But here’s the truth—people don’t follow products, they follow people.
I tried it all—every script, template, and “proven strategy” coaches threw at me. None of it worked. My content felt robotic, and my audience wasn’t connecting.
That’s when I realized something crucial: People crave authenticity.
So, I simplified everything. I started using what I now call the ABC Method:
-
Attention – Capture interest fast. Social media moves at lightning speed. If you don’t grab attention in the first three seconds, you’ve lost them.
-
Belief Shift – Challenge or reinforce existing beliefs. People don’t just want entertainment; they want transformation.
-
Call to Action – Give people a next step. Growth happens when you invite people into something bigger than themselves.
Once I embraced this approach—and just started showing up as myself—everything changed. I built my audience to over 25,000 across Facebook alone, not by following trends, but by being real, consistent, and engaging.
The biggest mistake I see? People trying to be “perfect.” Social media isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection. If you’re willing to be yourself, share your story, and invite people into it, you won’t just grow an audience—you’ll build a movement.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
If there’s one story that defines what resilience means to me, it’s the five-year battle I fought for my son.
When we adopted him, I knew his past trauma ran deep. But I wasn’t prepared for how hard the road ahead would be. His behaviors became extreme—violent outbursts, police at the door, and daily restraint holds just to keep him safe.
When the courts and the support systems failed us, I felt God calling me to move—to leave everything behind in search of help.
But things got worse before they got better.
For six months, we barely left the house. Every day was an emotional and physical battle. I was exhausted, drained, and isolated.
Then, my body gave out.
I woke up in a hospital bed, diagnosed with trauma shock. Years of stress had caused my brain and nervous system to shut down, and doctors gave me three months to live.
My son was finally getting the help he needed—but it had come at the cost of my own life.
Lying in a bed at my friend’s house, ready to give up, Jesus walked into the room.
And He spoke.
“You left the 99 to save the 1. Now, I’m giving you the 99 to tell your story to the nations.”
He told me I had a mission:
“You will not take your legacy to the grave with you. And you will keep others from taking their messages, their purpose, and their legacies to the grave with them. Your legacy starts right now”
That was the moment Stories to Stages was born.
From that day forward, I knew my purpose: to help people define their purpose by telling their story.
Now, we are on a mission to help one million people share their stories across social media.
Because I know what it feels like to have no one hear your story.
And I will make sure that never happens to you.
