We recently connected with Devin Nunez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Devin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Starting Bella Vi Beauty was never scary for me, I had the ambition and the passion to be a business owner and I went for it. Bella Vi Beauty is named after my daughter, Viviana. She puts the ‘Vi’ in Bella Vi. I also knew I wanted ‘beauty’ in the name as well to give myself a broad scope of services, and not just limiting myself to my own specialty which is brows.
I quickly perfected my craft in permanent cosmetics and built my clientele. I truly believe the growth in my business all stems down to me genuinely loving what I do, caring about my clients, and giving everyone who walks through my door a great experience.
I started in my living room, then rented a small suite for a few years before moving to a larger suite, and now I own my own Salon Suite business.
I learned a lot about what I did like and didn’t like about leasing a suite, and I think that’s what sets me apart from other Salon Suite owners.
Taking risks is huge in growing your business! Go for it!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been in the beauty industry as an esthetician for 14 years. Finding my niche in eyebrows has been the most rewarding journey. I sometimes can’t believe I really am living my dream! I genuinely feel so blessed that I make a living doing something I’m so passionate about. I’m in love with my career, my clients, and my own need to perfect my craft.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Be passionate about what you do! Communicate with your clients and make their whole experience joyous. If I can make a client happy and comfortable while tattooing their eyebrows, you can do it too!
One thing I’ve learned is that word of mouth is everything. 90% of my clientele is made up of referrals. You really need to treat your clients like gold. They could go anywhere, but they chose you. They will tell everyone about you, good or bad.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency. I advise anyone who is starting out that being consistent is the most important thing with social media. I have never once paid for marketing or promos. Social media really is today’s version of window shopping.
Post everything, all the time. Just be consistent! It’s easier said than done, running your social media can feel like it’s own separate job, but it’s worth it. Do not pay for marketing or promotions. Just post!
