We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devin Herz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Devin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Our main focus was creating engaging, outrageous direct mail and marketing collateral materials to help businesses get their message seen. Back in the day some of our direct mail campaigns included DVD players in an Attaché case that we sent to target prospects and they would play the DVD in the DVD player that would convey a message or invitation with a specific Call to Action. We were printing up 100’s of thousands of direct mail pieces and we had an idea, how do we incorporate Videos in our Printed materials? That is where the research and developments came in for us to discover video-in-print solutions. After going through issues and growth pains, we developed PrintAVizion a leader in video-in-print technology featuring video brochures, video boxes, video mailers and more.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Devin Herz has been on a mission for 25+ years to help businesses succeed. As a child, Devin got to see the ins and outs of running a business because his Father owned 7 successful retail stores and his Mother runs a Luxury Real Estate company in Boca Raton. He quickly noticed the power that marketing combined with superior service made those businesses thrive.
Working with the New York Yankees in the mid 90’s he experienced and studied how one of the most powerful sports teams and “The Boss” George Steinbrenner ran their historic franchise.
Devin’s career in marketing started in 1995 as a college sophomore when he and his great friend founded a company that orchestrated events and concerts growing to be one of Tampa’s largest event marketing companies at that time. He and his business partner’s ability to create unique marketing materials, use of guerilla marketing tactics, and the ability to evolve, drove thousands of people to their events for 8 straight years.
Between his deep knowledge of running successful businesses, he is also well versed in direct response marketing, creating eye-grabbing designs, print, direct mail, and social. media.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Crashed and burned in the downturn of 2008. I was too optimistic and did not pivot quickly enough. Was able to pull myself and our company out of bankruptcy to build a 7 figure agency. This was not easy but hard work, narrowing focus, pivoting quickly and making informative decisions helped me perceiver.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
For every solution we offer our clients those solutions are tested by us first. We practice what we preach and have had success with our systems and processes. The story i can tell here is how we got laser focused with our marketing efforts and used the PrintAVizion solution to target 100 Whale prospects. By using this method we were able to initially land 3 clients that generated over $180k in retainers over the year. Plus we added on additional clients from the targeted list with ongoing touches and follow ups.
