We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Devin Henry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Devin below.
Devin, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Since I’ve created Grow Entertainment, I’ve learned how difficult it can be to get support from friends/family. Although, there are some friends/family that will support you, networking will take you a long way. Whether networking takes place through advertisements on social media, going to socialize with business vendors, or just talking in the community, you need to develop that support as a business owner. The most supportive people that you should have for a business is your clients, they make or break the process of who will be in contact with you in the future.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Grow Entertainment was created, in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic had just started, and I had more time than before. During this extra time, I wanted to show how the world looks to me through photography. Initially, the shots I was taking didn’t look like the pictures I am taking now. I continued to practice how to capture how I visually see the world.
What sets me apart from other photographers is that I am not just a photographer who wants to tackle a concept and go home. I am a photographer who focuses on capturing the vision and maximizing the beauty of the set. I like photos to express the memory and energy that the client had when doing the photo shoot.
I am proud I have support and people who love my work. I love hearing interpretations of my art and how it is not the same as others’ artistic styles. I consider my regular clients and those I work with to be a part of my creative family. Art is very personal to me and intimate. As I am capturing a picture, I am not just pressing a button, but I am telling a story of what was expressed by this person. Emotions and body language expressions are my favorite things to capture in a photo. If you can capture these humanistic elements, then you are innovative and a visionary.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In the summer of 2022, I moved from North Carolina to Wisconsin. Establishing a business in Wisconsin has been somewhat difficult, but during the transition, I’ve still been able to work with some wonderful people. It is a different client audience, and I’ve had to learn how to adjust for business. I would say that being resilient is not allowing me to stop photography as a whole but expand and begin to think differently; about how I can use my talents.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been social media for me. Although I am not familiar with many people In Wisconsin, I know that social media can be used to help grow clientele and outreach those in the community.
