We were lucky to catch up with Devin Craig recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

I studied theater for three years at the MFA theater program at USC. I don’t know if there was anything different regarding the learning process that I could’ve sped up. So much of learning acting is about delayed gratification. Things don’t click until they do and then you run with it. The most essential skills that I believe an actor must have would be imagination and specificity. But the most important skill in learning acting is just plain ol grit lol. I’d say my ego and naivety stood in the way of me learning and absorbing more early on but after I learned to shed that I caught up pretty quick.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Well I’m an actor, most people would know me from playing Isaiah on the HBOMAX show The Sex Lives Of College Girls. I actually got my start in acting because I auditioned for my high schools production of High School Musical as a senior and ended being cast as Troy Bolton. I turned it down because I was on the basketball team and it would conflict with my schedule( I know). But I went back and saw it and I feel in love with that. From then on I knew I wanted to be an actor. I’d say the thing that separates me the most from other actors is my support system. Regardless of training, talent, or whatever else may make someone a commodity in this industry I feel like if you don’t have a proper support system it’ll be difficult to persist through the ups and downs. I know without a doubt I wouldn’t have been able to do half of what I’ve done without my support system so I’ll give them all the praise. I’m definitely the most proud of my MFA. If you’ve ever gone to an acting conservatory I know you probably feel the same. USC made me evolve not only as an actor but as a man. I learned as much about life in the three years as I’d learned in my other 23 years and that accomplishment of getting a masters degree from my dream school is something no one will be able to take away from me. The main thing id want future clients/followers/ fans to know about me? I’m here for a good time lol. Let’s collaborate and make art and spread positivity.
