We recently connected with Devin Burke and have shared our conversation below.
Devin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I’m super blessed to have amazing parents. They did a lot right. They were always very supportive and I felt loved which is more than any child I think could ask for.
My mom taught me to care about other people! She was a stay-at-home mom and I saw her go above and beyond to take care of myself and my three brothers. She was also involved in the church and community and interested in health. She was the one that ignited the spark for me to get into a field helping people improve their sleep and well-being.
My Dad taught me the value of hard work and focus. He worked in software sales and worked a lot but still always made time to show up at all my sporting events and was home for a family dinner. I remember being introduced to Tony Robbins content while my Dad was driving us around on the weekends. Being exposed to personal development at such as young are helped prepare me for success in life and business. I eventually invested to learn from Tony in person and at one of his 7 day seminars had a breakthrough which led me to getting engaged and married!
Devin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I help people sleep, so they can wake up to living their best life. I’m a TEDx speaker, bestselling author of the Sleep Advantage and founder of Sleep Science Academy which helps high achievers and exhausted insomniacs fall and stay asleep using a unique holistic approach based in science.
Like others who sleep really well, I didn’t really think about sleep; Sleep was just something I did every night.
To be honest, I believed that sleep was kinda a waste of time and that it certainly wasn’t a key to accessing deeper levels of joy, energy, creativity, intelligence, or performance.
It wasn’t until a life coaching client I was working with who was struggling with his sleep asked for support with his sleep issues, that my eyes were finally opened to the power and importance of sleep.
As I dove into the science of sleep and looked into the available sleep solutions I realized several things…
First, the solutions I found didn’t really address the root cause.
Second, sleep is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain, body, and health each day.
Third, was that sleep can improve every aspect of our lives – our health, relationships, careers, and performance or it can destroy them.
The more I learned about sleep the more I wanted to learn. I began experimenting with the different techniques and tools I discovered until I found the most powerful mindsets, techniques, technology and tools.
I was able to help my client sleep by sharing this system and I knew if I could help one person then this could help thousands maybe even millions. We are not helping million yet, but we are helping hundreds (soon-to-be thousands) with our system and approach.
I’m most proud of all the lives we have changed and saved as a result of the work we do.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being open and curious. When it comes to helping people sleep X does not equal Y. Solving sleep isn’t always a linear process. By reminding open and curious I’ve been able to help people have breakthroughs where they’ve been suck for years or in a place of dispair and hopelessness.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
One word. Results. We get amazing results for our clients.
