We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Devin Adams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Devin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

My parents have always just let me live my life exactly how I want. They gave me the freedom to express myself and be whoever I wanted to be (I had many style phases). Most importantly, they are so supportive of everything I do.

I will share a story! My mom loves to tell this one: when I was little and my mom still had to dress me for school she’d lay out an outfit for me to put on. One morning I sat in my closet refusing to let her dress me and when she asked what was wrong I spoke my first full sentence: “I don’t wanna wear that”. After that she let me dress myself and I’ve been styling ever since!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I’m Devin! I am 25 and currently focused on fashion content creating and modeling. My mom has been my biggest inspiration when it comes to fashion and we’ve bonded over clothes, accessories, and shoes pretty much my entire life so fashion is very important to me! I’m happiest when I’m getting dressed for the day. I started taking modeling seriously after I graduated highschool, I had a friend who was a photographer so she took photos of me pretty much everywhere we went. Soon after, more and more photographers reached out to me to model for them and I fell in love with it. I am very proud of my growth and how much I’ve pushed myself to go out of my comfort zone as a creative.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to make connections with people who are trying to get it just like me. I love being surrounded by other artists and creatives who want to work together and make something beautiful, new, and refreshing.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

In my experience, when it comes to social media consistency is very important. The big apps (TikTok and Instagram) favor those who use all parts of the platform and keep other users on the app, so engagement is the key to building your platform. They make it really easy with the “insights” section they provide that shows you your account stats. It even shows you what times your followers are most active so you can time your posts out accordingly! Growing an audience definitely takes time just don’t rush your content and your audience will find you!
