We were lucky to catch up with Deven Billingslea recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deven, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a roofer I am in the field knocking on doors, telling my story, gaining potential customers trust everyday. I noticed that I was leaving money on the table when I was not servicing all storm damage possible at the customers home, I would help them with their roof and then outsource the interior damage. However, I would walk right past their vehicles. So I found a contact and started calling in the leads. Well that came with its own problems so then I Figured I could make that process better so I did.

Deven, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ive been a outside sales professional for most of my adult life. Ive sold in many different industries on my journey to find my headhodge concept. I got into the roofing industry during the pandemic because opportunities continued to present themselves. Because of my experience I focused on the canvassing aspect of obtaining customers. Canvassing is a lead generating technique for outside sales professionals. I have never viewed myself as a construction guy but I have been learning and growing within the industry. However, my true passion and or expertise continue to pull me back as I continue to work towards how I can achieve the life I deserve focusing on what I am truly good at. Developing Auto Hail Repair Brokers is a good way to fulfill my true desires. I view myself as a disruptor and potential taste maker. I hope to solidify this status by bringing value to those around me and providing an excellent experience while using my service.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I thought this was in interesting question. My current business was not my side hustle but I wanted to comment on this because throughout the years Ive seen a lot of people start very simple businesses with low margins and my initial thought was how is this the answer to financial freedom. Then I myself created a small business in the shoe shining industry with these same low margins and labor intensive services. I had my reasons, it was easier, it was attainable, it was expected and accepted. I shook up the local industry and I had a lot of fun but most importantly I gained confidence in the fact I could create something, do it my own way and grow it. So for those individuals who are currently showing growth in their current low yielding business I just encourage them to not keep themselves in financial box go bigger because you can do it.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Ive been in storm restoration a few short years but I connect myself with out spoken trendsetters and tastemakers within the storm restoration industry. I do my best to make sure that all communication with them is of value or as close to equally beneficial as possible. I keep all relationships genuine and don’t fold on my values. For this I believe I have been accepted in some circles and taken serious as a professional.
