We recently connected with Devani Aguirre and have shared our conversation below.
Devani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I came into contact with the owners of my all-time favorite snowcone place, Steph’s Chill Ville located in Grand Prairie; they are truly amazing people. They do a yearly toy drive and have small businesses set up all along their property to sell and advertise their businesses. They don’t charge a fee like most pop-ups do, but he does it to attract people to come by and donate toys to give to kids for Christmas. I did it for the first time last year. In all honesty, I loved being a part of this event that not only supports other small businesses but it gives back to a community that came together to make Christmas magical for the children receiving those toys. It truly made my heart feel so amazing after, that I promised to be a part of this event every year that they host it. We are a business that cares about others so anytime we can give back we will and being part of events like this makes us feel just that much more blessed.

Devani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
To start, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Devani Aguirre, and I am 30 years old I have two beautiful children and a wonderful husband. I originally worked for my sister-in-law; she has a photo booth business as well. I would set up and break down events for her, as well as stay and guide the guests through it. I learned almost everything from working with her. When Covid hit, I almost didn’t make it; I was on life support for a long time. So when I was able to come home, I felt like I had lost enough time away from my son, who was an only child then. I knew I couldn’t work a full-time job yet because I would get tired quickly, but I wanted a way to bring in financial help for my husband without having to leave my son behind. We had some money saved, and we invested it into this business that we all work in together as a family. We currently have two photo booths and 14 backdrops to choose from. Recently, we added a red carpet experience to our packages. I believe what sets us apart from other photo booth businesses is that we create our own props to match the theme of your party. Our photo booths have a built-in ring light that everybody loves. We offer a digital experience where you share photos instantly via SMS, or you can choose to print on the spot. Our printing feature also includes digital sharing. Our booths are simple to use, but they look elegant at any event. Our booths can be set up inside and out as long as the weather is sunny and bright. Our photo booths are open-air, so you don’t have to cram them into a small box for photos. Our goal is to always have a satisfied customer and keep their guests having fun at all times and creating beautiful memories from special life celebrations. We love creating memories, and that’s where our name came from: Recuerdos (Memories) Photobooth. We strive to make sure our clients always have the best experience from the time they contact us with questions about our packages till the time they receive their files. My entire heart goes into each and every one of these events I am honored to be a part of.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
We had some savings, and it was enough for one booth, and it’s iPad and a computer. My husband and I would sell food plates at his job and even took on other little side hustles like making tacos for a party to gather the funds to purchase our backdrops. I have always liked, making things with my hands, I love creating crafts. Since we didn’t have the funds to purchase props at the time I took on making them myself. Which was more affordable for us at the moment but adding that to our packages helped us get more clients.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
At the beginning stages of trying to get my business to take off, I took a risk and offered my photo booth service to my son’s school for free. From that event, I started getting calls from different schools in the same district that now wanted to hire me for their school events. Now, they call me at the beginning of the school year to book dates for all their events taking place throughout the year. It made me so excited to receive all those events that were being booked months in advance.
