We recently connected with Deuce Swervo and have shared our conversation below.
Deuce , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
What I do different than everyone else is I do everything. I’m an artist on top of being an engineer and producer, while also working my own social media accounts and managing my own career and business endeavors. Not to knock anyone else in the music industry, but it’s not very often you see someone who can produce a song, write it, record it, mix it, master it, and distribute it to stores themselves. I’m humbled to be given the gift and I try my hardest to use all my God given talents to the fullest.
Deuce , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For people who haven’t heard of me, my name is Deuce. I’m an artist from Indian Trail, North Carolina. Getting into the industry was from connections and working in areas with connected people. I used social media as well to build my name up and numbers don’t lie so if gave me credibility as well amongst my peers. On top of being an artist who raps and sings, I engineer and produce as well. I’ve worked in countless studios across the East and all over North Carolina, and I spend most of my time running sessions in Raleigh, North Carolina. The thing I’m most proud of so far in my career is being able to adapt to any situation presented to me. I’ve jumped around genres in my music, learned and adapted while learning in engineering, with production I’m able to make anything and it sound like I have experience producing in that genre, and from being a shy kid from the East side of Charlotte performing is now one of my strong suits and something people have given me props on.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time I had to pivot is when I made the move from Indian Trail to Raleigh. All my life the only place I’ve known as home is Indian Trail. All my friends and family are there, my girlfriend stays there, it’s just a hard thing being 3 hours away from home. At 18 I moved away from home and went to Raleigh to pursue music and so far it’s been the best decision I’ve made for myself.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
The first story of how I met my business partner was we went to school together, and in my first year of middle school he was leaving middle school and kinda got me out of my shell a bit because he was an extrovert (at the time). He started rapping and was the best out of where we were from and when I started producing I said I’d work with him when I got better. Fast forward to my freshman year and his junior year I sent him some beats and from then on we’ve made a mark on our hometown and the state. Shoutout Unknown! (@ohthatsunknown)
