We caught up with the brilliant and insightful De’tysha Nicholson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
De’Tysha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful I believe you have to be dedicated, determined, self driven and motivated in all areas. As we all know success doesn’t come over night and a lot of us as growing business owners forget that main tip. Being consistent with trends, work ethics and customer service has taken me so far and has put me in rooms I never knew I name would be heard in. Success to me is the definition of beating the odds and staying down until you become the best at your craft. Keep grinding until you are making money in your sleep!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 25 year old business owner of Opulent Artistry. I am from Greenwood south Caroline and recently moved to Atlanta in March of this year. I have always been into makeup and beauty within itself. I have been a freelance makeup artist for four years now! I enjoy engaging and enhancing my client’s beauty. Seeing their reaction once they leave my chair and look in the mirror is all the reward I need when it comes to a “LOOK”. I specialize in natural makeup and bridal makeup as well. I really enjoy what I do and I don’t think as being a makeup artist as a job it’s a passion for me. I help women feel beautiful inside and out , I help with blemishes that they may not want shown on a day to day bases. As a makeup artist I believe I am here to enhance your beauty not turn you into a different person. I am known in my hometown for natural looks as well. I am most proud of how far I have come. If you would have asked me a couple years ago where I see myself in a couple years I wouldn’t have said I would be based in Atlanta , Ga doing what I love. The main thing I am trying to focus on at the moment is gaining new and potential clients , meeting new people and enhancing my following on all social media platforms.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy that has helped my clientele grow is word of mouth and going old school with passing out business cards. I literally give my business cards out everywhere I go; gas stations, salons, restaurants, malls, spas, wedding shops and it has helped shape my clientele to the type of clients I would like to service .
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
To keep in touch with clients I use text marketing, email marketing and I’ve started doing loyalty cards as well. This has helped me improve in different areas that I may lack giving me a time to step back and reevaluate to improve on customer service and experience.
