Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Detrich Swain. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Detrich, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Well my most obvious risk I took was walking off my job to pursue music and entrepreneurship. The reason this was such a big risk is because I have a wife and 4 kids but God was pushing me. I have went to school and earned my bachelor’s and MBA to try and elevate through corporate America. But it only brought me more heartache and never higher positions to match my education, experience and qualifications. I got tired of working crazy hours with lack of family time and not getting anywhere career wise. So with so many negatives surrounding me everyday I just decided one day I couldn’t take it anymore, so I decided to chase my dreams for a change. I wanted to do something that I enjoyed that was fulfilling and allowed my creativity. I used to be at my 9-5 saying to myself that I am better than this and I am worth more than this. I knew God had something bigger for me to do. The energy I put into a job making someone else dreams come true I decided to put that energy into myself and what I wanted to accomplish. Yes it has been hard and there are times where I’m broke and questioning my moves but I know anything worth having is worth the sacrifice because I have had some great things to happen to me as well. Like me currently doing this interview. I know God will give me all of the desires of my heart if I just continue to work hard and put energy into what I want to do and God will open up doors.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a writer and a musician, my artist name is Dee D$b. I’ve been writing and rapping since a pre teen and creating and writing music has always been my passion. I got into music just from loving it and seeing people that I admire take it to the next level. I just watch those before me and follow the blueprint to success. I provide collaborations, writing needs of any sort, help with music business practices that people pay labels to do, performance and an inspiration to those in my presence. What sets me apart from others is my fearlessness and my style of music that no one is doing and no one sounds like me. My style is very unique but soul touching. I am most proud of the music I created knowing I created something that will last forever for all my descendants to follow and listen to. The main thing I want people to know about me is that I am transparent, I’m always keeping it real, my fans will see that I’m just like them and I make music that reflects that. I’m always open for constructive criticism as well as collaborations for not only music but for writing projects, interviews, branding needs and business tips.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the freedom. I have the freedom to create and bring things to life. I work as my own boss and I have an opportunities to meet and work with new people and exchange ideas. I get to express my true self to the world with my words, writings and creativity without worrying about limits to what I can do and say. Being mentally free is very important, I can’t express that enough. Making money for doing what you love can never be bad.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my mission and goal is to reach and touch souls, I want to bring God and faith to those who may be reluctant to believe. I want to inspire people to chase their dreams no matter what their age is. I would like to raise your spirituality and change the generational curses on my family. I want to set my family up with wealth for generations to come and I want to help others change their family’s misfortunes by employing people and invest in their business dreams to help them. Hopefully this will all start from people supporting my music and listening to my message.
