We recently connected with Destiny Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
Destiny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I feel that discipline one of the keys to success. Being an entrepreneur has its highs and lows but it’s important to consistently promote your brand and the services you offer. There have been slow seasons where I haven’t had as many bookings, however it’s still my responsibility to create projects for myself in order to perfect my craft.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Destiny Wilson and I am a 28 year old photographer from Sylacauga, Alabama. In high school I discovered my passion for photography while in journalism. I served on the journalism staff since middle school. During my experience with journalism we recorded and live streamed games as an as wrote articles for the yearbook. After graduating with my Bachelors in Public Health from UAB, I revisited my passion for photography in 2020. I enjoy capturing special moments and creating memories with my clients. I have been privileged to have captured several weddings, birthday parties, retirement events, and baby showers. In the end all we have is memories and I am thankful to capture sentimental moments.
Starting my business is something I’m most proud of. Not having a clear vision of where its going can sometimes be intimidating, but I’ve been able to network and find great mentors that have help me build my business and skillset to what it is today.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I feel that presenting great work is a thing that helped me build my reputation within my market. Any business that you have entails customer service so it’s important to always display great customer skills with each client. Each photo is my clients time to shine, and I treat them as such. Another key to building reputation is collaborating with other people in your field. Networking is key to building yourself out here. If you don’t have work, go find work.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is brining my clients photo inspiration to life. I also enjoy making people feel good, it is truly priceless sending people their final edits and receiving their positive feedback. Everyone deserves to feel and look their best.
