We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Destiny Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Destiny below.
Destiny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I do wish I had taken my creative career more seriously sooner. When I graduated college in 2021, I was so excited about continuously making art and making sure I had an impact on my city and the people around me that I felt like I should’ve taken the business side of things more seriously. Though I feel like the projects and art I curated are sustainable, I should’ve geared toward projects that are more timeless and also personable to reach people outside of my city and even impact the world. I wish I had applied to more grants, and shows and even worked on how to price my work and to be even made business cards sooner lol. I took a long break from photography and now it kinda feels like catching up but also rebranding but it’s been really fun.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So I started photography in church actually I met a photographer at a service and they had their camera and honestly it was love at first sight. I was 13 and never saw a camera like that, you ever look at something or even hold on to something and it’s like you were meant to be? Since then I have taken photographs constantly, I did weddings, church services, birthdays all types of events but I wasn’t getting much fulfillment so I shifted after I graduated high school I practiced portraits and I kept going at it because I wanted to find my style and lane so bad lol. It took a while but eventually, I found my lane but I still wanted to remain versatile. I’m most proud of putting myself out there meeting new models and even connecting with other artists. The community always makes being creative and also stays motivated in navigating the art world.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honestly, Facebook and LinkedIn are some of the greatest tools and I recommend keeping them updated. Even when it feels like no one is paying attention promise someone is.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
There isn’t a story I always thought of social media as and chaos scrapbook. I post relatable content and try to shift it into my marketing, I think if you building your presence keep it as genuine as possible.
