Destiny Nicole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?

Where do I start? Honestly, the best way to start my story is starting from the very beginning. The beginning before business, before working at a salon, before even being licensed, this is truly where my story began with my business. I have always loved the beauty industry and I knew it had great potential. Unfortunately, it seemed that everyone I personally knew or had heard of, weren’t focused on what I felt would work. Diversify. I was on a quest to find the best cosmetology school, relocation after graduation and continued education to become a top stylist. I wanted to become a top stylist at a luxury salon. I never wanted to own a business. I wanted to perform well, be well informed and offer the top services in the industry. Ultimately, the same what I wanted to do, led me to opening my business. Owning a business is not easy and there have been serval speed bumps but it has been worth it. Scaling a small business, for me, is not about the number or employees or location but about the numbers. How can you increase profit where you are now? How can you continue to stay happy and focus on what is most important in your personal as well as professional life? Continuing to dive deep with education helped me scale. Not only education directed towards my industry but to all aspects of business. Finance and marketing are BIG helps but my top strategies was educating myself on how I wanted in my chair. Who could I see myself talking hours with outside of beauty? Who could I go to lunch or shopping with? Who would be the perfect person to hangout with and liked the things that I liked? When I decided the “who: thats when I scaled. Thats when I vision become clear on growing. Thats when work wasnt work. Thats when the profession that turned into a business scaled into a lifestyle that makes money and ultimately happiness.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

So many lol. The one that stands out most to me is, ” You have to do everything”. This is a horrible way to view any business. Starting as a baby stylist, you hear this more times than you know and honestly what you decide to do is totally up to you. Being a hair extensions focused stylist is what works for me. This is what makes me happy, frees up my time for worship and family and makes me consistent money.

Nothing/ No one can tell you whats right/perfect for you. This is decided by the decision maker… you. All you know what will truly work, Every situation is unique.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Social media is ever changing but one thing thats stays the same is the is having the be consistent. The entire scope of social media is to be social. Commenting, Liking, Posting, shows that you are engaged and want to be engaged. Make a routine and stick to it, Every day if you want to grow. Using planning apps and creator apps to help you along the way.
