We recently connected with Destiny Kyles-Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Destiny, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
As a business owner, the worst investment I made was purchasing my second home. I knew as a new business owner it was important not to accumulate any additional major debt. I needed to stick to my business plan and invest more into my business. Which would essentially make me more profitable in the future. I absolutely love my home, but I wasn’t being prudent in my finances. Making that decision decreased what I could’ve invested in my agency which took me about two years to recover and market like I should have done in 2018.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Destiny Kyles-Jones, wife to Jarred Jones and mother to Zane Kyle Jones. I am a State Farm Agent and owner of “360withDestiny Photobooth Company”.
I am extremely knowledgeable about auto, home, life, health, and mortgage financing. I also love capturing timeless moments and vibes with my 360 Booth.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Business credit is essential. There are different ways of establishing it. I like to think of this very similar to establishing personal credit. The major
difference is that it’s not as known as personal credit. You want to first make sure your personal credit is in good standing. Then start applying for Tier 1 companies, like gas and office supply store cards. You might have to be a personal guarantor in order to get approved. From there, it’ll start your business credit.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
I almost missed payroll by not understanding employer taxes during my first two months as an agent. Thankfully, I hired a great CPA, who educated me. I’ve never missed payroll, but I did have a close call.
