Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Destiny Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Destiny, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of Divinity comes from the root word of Divine, which is also my middle name. Divinity means holiness, blessedness, coming directly from God.
Divinity was created in order for people to be seen. For individuals to know that they are important, worthy of His grace, full of purpose at any stage of their walk with Christ.
Divine Power, Divine Purpose, and Divine Release.. represents wholeness, completion and “perfection.”
Destiny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Divinity is a faith based brand that started from a testimony. Through out my journey with Christ there has been so many ups and downs, uncertainties and challenges BUT God. God’s grace has continually poured over my life no matter if I strayed away, doubted His word or didn’t feel His presence. I often see others struggle with their faith and wanted to create a space to let them know that is okay! It is a journey and it takes time, creating fellowship opportunities to connect with other believers in every stage of their journey in style is a blessing. Those opportunities may look like paint and praise events, pop up shops, selling Bible study kits and sharing the Gospel.
Many of the art work on the apparel is hand-drawn to represent our walk with Christ, nothing perfect but purposeful.
It’s raw, imperfect but still tells a story.
It all represents our walk with Christ; never perfect but we are all here to serve a purpose and to make Him known.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I thank God that my family and friends are so supportive. All the shares on social media and purchases I get from my inner circle helps build my presence on social media. I’ve had friends and family post pictures in my clothes and from there I get so many followers. Navigating social media is a challenge but I am still learning to be more consistent and go out of my way to make new connections.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Actually I press all my apparel in house. I love being able to create my own items and bring my vision to life. The process is exciting for me but as my business grows I will be looking into vendors so I can have more on hand. One lesson I am learning is that with a vendor they will always have the items on hand for you versus going to a store and purchasing an item that may be “out of season” or “sold out.”
