We recently connected with Destiny Henderson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time, I’d actually choose to start my business later, which I know might not be the typical answer. I launched my business during a really difficult time in my life—I was in full-blown survival mode, financially and emotionally. I was struggling, trying to make ends meet, and looking for something that could not only bring me income but also give me a sense of purpose.
Starting a business during that time did push me to hustle and get creative, and I’m grateful for the beautiful brand I’ve built. But looking back, I realize how important it is to have a strong foundation—something I didn’t fully have at the time. There’s so much more to running a business than doing the actual service. There’s the legal side, the financial planning, the marketing, the client communication—and if you don’t have a handle on those things, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Honestly, if I had waited just a bit longer, I would’ve taken more time to do the research, build savings to support myself outside of the business, and really prepare mentally and emotionally for entrepreneurship. So many small businesses fail in the early years because they’re built on shaky ground, and I had to learn the hard way that building from a place of survival is not sustainable.
That said, I don’t regret my journey. It taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and how to pivot. But if I could do it all over again, I’d give myself a little more time and grace to prepare—so I could build not just a business, but a legacy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Destiny, and I wear a few different crowns—but at the heart of it all, I’m a creative who’s passionate about helping women feel beautiful and empowered, both inside and out. I started my journey in the beauty industry as a self-taught makeup artist, making handmade lip glosses in my spare time. What began as a simple hustle quickly grew into something much bigger than I imagined.
Over time, I found myself not only selling beauty products and providing makeup services, but also stepping into the world of business consulting. I’ve had the honor of working behind the scenes with some of the most successful service providers in our area—helping them launch online stores, design websites, build online communities, create and sell digital courses, and execute events with intention and impact. I’ve also been fortunate to bring my artistry into some amazing spaces—from commercial sets and television shows to fashion shows with celebrity designers, self-love campaigns, and even getting published in a French magazine.
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between creative vision and real-world execution. Whether I’m behind the brush or behind the brand, I help people go from “just getting by” to building a business—and a life—that works for them. My superpower lies in creating systems, building strong teams, and setting up sustainable workflows that give entrepreneurs their time and peace back—without sacrificing the client experience.
Through my brand, Real Queen Beats, I provide soft glam makeup services, bridal and photoshoot makeup, as well as one-on-one virtual makeup tutorials for everyday women who want to feel confident doing their own glam. I also lead a Facebook community, The Queen’s Cavern, where I pour into women with beauty tips, self-care gems, and mental health conversations—because looking good should never come at the cost of feeling good.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve stayed true to myself and my purpose throughout this journey. I’ve built something that uplifts others, whether they’re sitting in my chair or building their dream behind a screen. If there’s one thing I want people to know about me and my work—it’s that I’m here to help you feel seen, supported, and unstoppable.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned about managing a team is that people show up better when they feel seen, heard, and respected. It’s not just about delegating tasks—it’s about creating a space where your team feels valued and aligned with the bigger picture.
Clear communication is key. I make sure everyone knows the “why” behind what we’re doing, not just the “what.” When people understand the purpose and feel connected to the mission, they take more pride in their work.
I also believe in building a culture that prioritizes people, not just productivity. Check in on your team outside of work talk. Ask how they’re doing, celebrate their wins—big or small—and create room for honest feedback. That feedback goes both ways, too. I’ve learned to check my ego at the door and be open to hearing how I can lead better.
Lastly, make sure your systems support your team. If your backend is messy or expectations are unclear, that stress trickles down. Having structure and boundaries in place allows your team to thrive and prevents burnout. A well-supported team is a confident team—and confidence is contagious.
At the end of the day, high morale comes from mutual respect, transparency, and making sure people feel like more than just a role—they feel like a part of something meaningful

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
For me, client connection goes way beyond just sending a confirmation email and doing their makeup. I truly value building community over just building clientele. That’s why I created my Facebook group, The Queen’s Cavern, where I regularly share beauty tips, self-care reminders, and mental health check-ins. It’s a space for us to have real conversations—not just about makeup, but about life.
I also stay in touch through newsletters that feel more like love notes than marketing blasts. I let my clients know what’s going on with me, what new services or tutorials I’m offering, and how they can continue building their skills at home. I speak to them the same way I would speak to a friend, and that authenticity goes a long way.
Brand loyalty is built on trust. I always strive to make people feel seen and appreciated, whether that’s through a personalized product recommendation, checking in after an appointment, or offering resources to help them grow their confidence with makeup on their own terms. A lot of my clients become repeat clients not just because they like their makeup—but because they felt genuinely cared for.
At the end of the day, people remember how you made them feel. So I focus on making every interaction feel intentional, empowering, and rooted in community.
