Destiny , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I ever took was starting a business while I was still an unemployed college student. Before attending Tennessee State University, I dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur in the beauty industry, but it felt like just a dream. That changed when I took a leap of faith and began making lip products by hand in my dorm room. I failed badly at first, but I was proud that I had started.
During my undergraduate years, I took several science lab courses that sharpened my formulation skills. I began applying what I learned directly to my products, and with each trial, I improved. Once I developed a product I was proud of, I dove into research and enrolled in business courses to deepen my knowledge.
After a year of testing and saving, I was finally able to purchase inventory in bulk and officially launch my business. I built a website, started selling both in person and online, and eventually sold out of hundreds of lip glosses.
What started as a risky experiment in a dorm room turned into a thriving business. This risk was a powerful lesson in persistence, passion, and trusting the process.

Charismatic Cosmetics is a vegan-based and cruelty-free beauty brand built on inspiration. My goal is for the world to know that my brand was created to inspire, particularly through cosmetics. Beauty products have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves. They make us feel beautiful and encourage us to dress up and feel good for ourselves! I want my products to give people that same sense of empowerment when they apply a bit of lip gloss or any products of ours.
Beyond just cosmetics, my brand aims to be an inspiration for those looking to create a business of their own. I want them to see that you don’t need always need a blueprint to build the dream you want for yourself. I specialize in creating high-quality, highly pigmented, vegan, and cruelty-free cosmetics, and I am known for being inspirational.
Growing up, I faced many challenges, but I never let adversity stop me from pursuing my dreams. I want to show young girls who want to start their own businesses that they can achieve anything. If someone looks at me and says, ‘You’re the reason I didn’t quit,’ that would be the ultimate achievement.
What sets me apart is my ability to innovate and create new ideas for my brand. I don’t keep Charismatic Cosmetics in a bubble, I love thinking outside the box and offering something charismatic each season. My brand wasn’t created just to sell cosmetics; it was built to inspire people in every way possible.
What I’m most proud of is the continuous innovation of my brand. Every new launch is better than the last, and I’m passionate about the process of growing my business and creating products I’ve never made before.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One important lesson I had to unlearn was the need for instant results. Early on, I was impatient and wanted things to happen quickly, but I realized that rushing the process often led to mistakes and setbacks. Over time, I learned to trust the process and embrace patience, understanding that success is a journey that requires careful planning and time to unfold.

Building relationships with other entrepreneurs has significantly impacted my management style, entrepreneurial thinking, and philosophy. Many successful entrepreneurs regularly offer powerful advice that helps me improve both my business and my skills.
